Since installing the bf2 1.5 patch and 0.87 pr patch I am now getting flashing black texture splotches over the terrain. They are roughly circular and change location.

I have an ati 3200 intergrated graphics.

Just wondered if any1 else was getting this and if they had an idea how to fix ?

Also I am thinking I might try and reinstall bf2 and PR to see if that fixes things. Any1 know if I can copy a file that has my controls mapped, so I can paste into a fresh install ?

I think it is an old BF2 issue that some people just have. I don't think there is a good solution, but you can try removing the cache.

Go to My Documents\Battlefield 2\mod\bf2\cache and delete all the folders that looks like {EGF4234...}.


Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

this is an issue with ati cards, i got after installing catalyst 9.8 drivers with CCC(to enable AA from panel, btw, it dont work:lol , cancelling AA in CCC and uninstalling of it didnt solve the problem so i jumped back to 9.6 and it works fine now

Yup just like that Dank, but usually multiple and flashing about.

Thought it could be my ati driver issue, but I believed I had played PR bf2 since updating that and no issues. I may well have been wrong on this though, so your probably right.

not issue with ati cards. with ati cards it might occur if you disable catalyst ai which you probably just did. if it happens on nvidia cards, you can't fix it.

I gave up playing PR mod because of it. Installed latest Catalyst driver and I still have it. Arrrrrrggghhh

Any1 still having same issue or know how to fix it?

Now to answer your question, The black splotches are ether coursed by, your power supply is not supplying enough power to meet the demand your graphics card, Your driver is out of date, id say it the latter.

another thing that may cause this issue is that your memory is getting to hot on your graphics card. This can be caused by OC'ing the memory on the card or having poor air flow through your case.

I had this....

iirc to fix it you have to

1) delete ur bf2 cache files found in my documents\battlefield 2\mods\cache

and then...I think you have to turn off triple buffering if vsych is enabled. But my memory is a bit hazy.

Hmmm why didn't I listen to this earlier ( I do remember reading your post long ago), turning on catalyst ai seems to have done the trick. Weird thing is I remember disabling it to fix some other issue in some other game I was playing.

Only tired 1 map so far, but fingers crossed this has fixed it.

I had the same problem and closing uTorrent fixes it for me. I think it had something to cache memory settings in uTorrent, but I can't be sure. If you're running uTorrent or any other program that might mess up something in memory, try closing them. I'm using an ATI card too.

I KNOW THE FIX! Well... this worked for me and my brother. If my memory serves me correctly it is something to do with the CCC AI. This needs to be enabled to fix it. So try that, if it's already enabled, try fiddling around with different A.I modes. Hope this works

I have this problem too, but it happens in large blocks on the textures. I have an nvidia card (8800gts 512) and it only happens to me on maps like Quin Ling and Kashan, so that could either be from evga precision (which I got to work w/ mumble on vista 64) or the nvidia control panel. So this leads me to believe that memory on the card is to blame (not enough or running to hot, or oc'd to much or the core is fast for it... who knows) it doesn't affect framerate or game play for me. The ground just blinks blackness when flying.

strange, I have a nvidia GeForce 8500 GT and that doesn't happen to me.
