Connection Problems right after loading?

Hello guys!

Well... I'M SO FRUSTATED!
I searched the whole web and this forum... nothing.
90% of servers I join I get a " There's a problem with your connection" right after loading the map and then it kicks me back to the menu. There is only 1 server where I did not have this problem yet, it's the Chicago Insurgency Server. The other work sometimes and sometimes not.... I don't know what to do and I am very very upset that it doesn't work.
I already tried to update my ethernet drivers, the trick with hitting Esc doesn't work too.
During the round I never had any issues. I#m from Germany and I have cable Internet with about 360kBps download and 40-50kBps upload. The router connected to my PC is connected to another router. Maybe this information helps?! Ouh yeah... I get this problem with other mods too, like PoE2... but never had it with vBF2

Specs:
Geforce GTX 285
Intel Core2Quad Q9550
4GB DDR2 RAM
Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L
Windows Vista 64bit SP2

Thanks

Go try a few rounds in some vBF2 servers to make sure you don't get it there. If you do not, it is probably some sort of installation problem. I recommend doing a complete re-installation of Battlefield 2 and the mods you are using. Here is a guide:

I regulary play vBF2 and never had any problems with it...
Ok I'll reinstall everything but I'm not sure if that will help.

Ok... reinstalled everything and.... doesn't work -.-

I was thinking...could it possibly be a serverside issue? Because as already mentioned I never got any problem on the Chicago Insurgency Server.

thepalerider wrote:The most common cause of 'Connection to server has been
lost' seems to be caused by punk buster and firewall issues.
Remember it is recommended that you restart your system after you install/uninstall
programs to ensure all installed components, files and registry entries are correctly installed or removed.
So it is key you restart after using pbsvc uninstall.

Some routers with 'packet inspection' turned on can also trigger a disconnect when game
data or voip traffic triggers a false "ping flood"attack and the router shuts down
needed ports to protect your network.
So try turning packet inspection off to see if that helps.
If you have a busy network you can also get dropped if your packets are consistently
getting delayed due to high traffic.( your ping jumps way up from time to time)
If your running Xp you can tune up your internet connection with [url=http://www.
speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe]TCP Optimizer[/url] to maximize throughput.
check out speed guides
web site
TCP/IP Analyzer

results will show if you can improve throughput.

Having a router like D-links gamers lounge, that can prioritize traffic( they call it
GameFuel), can make a night and day difference.
This GameFuel improves your online gaming experience by ensuring that your game traffic
is prioritized over other network traffic, such as FTP or Web. This is of course much more
helpful on networks with more than one user, but if you like to download bit torrent or
other large files in the background while gaming you'll be glad you have one that can prioritize or 'shape' traffic.
So the question is where is the bottle neck? Is it inside the network (your PC to your router) or outside (modem to game server)
Inside a better router should help.
Outside improved throughput should help

good luck
Punk Buster not updated?:
Before you go online to join a server
you should:

1. Download pbsvc
2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.

5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup(pbsvc DOES NOT install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)

Firewall not set up (open) for BF2 and punk buster?
UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"

Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:

Select Punkbuster B, right click, select properties, select the recovery tab and make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three dropdowns. You can do the same for PB A, but generally speaking, it's the B client that stops responding. Any time you update PB, you may need to re-do this step.
Good luck, hope it helps

Ok, I tried to do the TCP/IP Analyzer thing and to set PnkbsterB to restart when it stops responding. I joined 4 server to see if it works and it seems so. I'll post later to say if it works 100% or if I just had a lucky moment...

Anyways thanks thepalerider..I think you solved my problem =D

Ok, I just had a lucky moment -.-

But I think the source of my Problem is my router!

My PC is connected to a router and this router is connected to another router (D-Link DI-524). I think that the D-Link router is the problem. What can I do?

I started having same problem like 3 days ago, and even if it doesnt DC me right after I connected, it will after about 40 mins. Tried reinstalling PB, checked firewall, did that administrative thingie, nothing helps.

You have two routers? Is that so you could expand your network?
I think you should be able to setup the 2nd router to work as a managed hub and not run dhcp etc. The two may be conflicting.
Fall back:
Get a cheep managed Ethernet hub the size you need (IE: 8, 16, 24 port etc.)for your network to replace the 2nd router.

Good luck

Yes I have two routers to expand my network! How can I turn my 2nd router to work as a managed hub? Can you explain it? It's a D-Link DI-524. May turning off DHCP help?

Yes. From the wall your Cable or DSL will go to your modem first. Some ISPs use an all in one (modem w/t 4 port 10-base t hub AND wireless) that works for 95% of their user base. Sounds like your not one of those, so you have:
Modem
to
router (set this as your dhcp provider)
to
router ( turn off dhcp at least)

you will need to call tech support for your router or read the manual, but as a 2nd router setup is rare, my guess is you will have better luck with tech support.

Far less hassle is replacing the router with a switch:
Computer Geeks has a cheep
5-Port 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Switchfor $10.99.
Need more ports?
Get the 16-Port 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch for $23.99

Switches are plug-n-play without any software to configure and most are fully compliant with all kinds of network protocols.
Good luck

Ok, it's me again! =D

Sorry for taking so long... had to do many important things these times^^

So... I configured my 2nd router and now it's a switch and my problem remains...

I'm so frustated you can't belive it!!!

Please help me!!

Edit:

I'm not sure but it seems to work when the other PCs in my House (2 Laptops) are not in Internet/off

Edit 2:

Just opend this ports on my router.... doesn't work

TCP Ports
4711, 27901, 28910, 29900, 299
UDP Ports
1500-4999, 16567, 27900, 29900

Make sure these ports are open on your router (my router 'D-link Gamers lounge' auto opens these ports for BF2)

TCP
80,
4711,
29900,
29901,
29920,
28910
44301
45301

UDP
1500 - 4999,
16567,
27900,
29900,
29910,
27901,
44301,
45301,

55123,
55124,
55215

Not sure what ports (TCP/UDP)
port for PnkBstrA = 44301
port for PnkBstrB = 45301
should be, so opened for both

Have you tried tech support yet? Have you looked into getting a cheep Ethernet switch instead?

Ok I opened that ports too and I disabled EAX on sound settings (I think it keeps turning on automaticly from time to time?!) and changed audio mode to hardware... until now no problems.

Edit:

Nope doesn't help...

and my D-Link Router is configured as Switch now...
I'll see if I can get a cheap wireless switch

Why for god's sake is Chicago Insurgency Server the only one I never got problems with??? And why do I only get these problems with mods but not with vBF2???????????????

Edit:

May it help turning UAC on?

I connected my PC directly to my router and it doesn't work. So I can be sure that the issue does not come from my D-Link Router/Switch.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I finaly figured out what the issue is!!!

It's VOIP!

I turned it off and could join the server without problems, after turning it on and joning the same server I got the Connection Problems.
When already on the server I can turn it on and I wont disconnect, but that's kinda of annoying to do everytime.
So, anyone has an idea how to fix it or do I have do keep turning it off/on?!

Have you tried turning packet inspection off ?

Some routers with 'packet inspection' turned on can also trigger a disconnect when game data or voip traffic triggers a false "ping flood"attack and the router shuts down needed ports to protect your network.

So try turning packet inspection off to see if that helps.

Good luck
PS make sure your 2nd routers firewall is off.
