Is mumble ever gonna be fully intergrated into PR

Hi guys, I was just wondering. Mumble is an awesome program, but many people are too lazy to download and install it. So im just askin if its possible to integrate it in the mod, and if it is when may it get integrated?

VIOP within the game engine is hardcoded, so we can't add mumble into PR. Though we are trying to make it more PR friendly and strongly encourage its use. However we can't force people to use mumble on all PR servers. If you really like it play on Reality Teamwork.

do you meant instead of bf2 voip disable and use mumble that will already be installed when you download pr?
not a bad idea if so... But mumble isnt always good tbh to much spam, cnt hear sqd leader if he to far away. etc.

I know VOIP is hardcoded into PR, but is it possible maybe to adjust it in some way to where Squad Leader's can talk with other Squad leaders? I mean the CO can talk to all Squad Leaders, so maybe have this adjusted so that it works for other Squads as well?
I haven't worked with the BF2 engine so I don't know if this is possible, or even if what I just typed made sense...but just a question/suggestion.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. As Mumble is open source and is being adapted to work well with PR, many things are possible. I'm no programmer but it's surely possible to include Mumble into the PR installation. The difficult part is programming Mumble to know what server you're so it can automatically place you in the correct channel. BF2 VOIP may be hardcoded but that doesn't mean that Mumble can't be used along side it.

I haven't worked with the BF2 engine either but it's been said many times on these forums by coders and devs that the standard BF2 VOIP cannot be modified to work in the way you suggest.

It isn't impossible to integrate mumble and PR. Yes it is true that the normal battlefield Voip system is hardcoded into the game but the in game information necessary to integrate mumble is
not hardcoded. Just think about it. Mumble is able to figure out which battlefield server you have joined and receive information regarding your position and orientation
as a third party program. To get mumble integrated would probably involve a mandatory installation of the program with installation of pr and making mumble run as an invisible background process. The PR mumble would have a dedicated official server where licensed pr servers would register to have a channel in the official server. From there you would be automatically switched to a given server channel on the basis of what server you are in in-game. This would require a lot of work and is basically centered around making mumble an operable invisible background process and automating the functions that the player preforms manually (ie joining the mumble server and switching to the proper channel. But because mumble is open source this is all possible

.
Oh yeah and remember boys and girls...

One possibility is to add Mumble to the PR installer.

Some of us have played a round with only mumble as our VOIP, as th ingame voip was off due to a server fault.
it was very realistic and epic.
BUT it was very hard to keep squads together, so in its current incarnation it complements BF2 Voip rather than replacing it.
If mumble can continue to evolve, then one day I think there willl be servers with VOIP turned off and mumble use enforced, especially if features like autochannelchanging become reality.

I have always wanted to use mumble since I first heard of it, but I just can't get it to be stable on my system, I keep having trouble to the extent that I just give up.
If mumble was somehow integrated into the game, and set up with the PR installation, I for one would be very happy about it!
