Question about 25 posts before posting in suggestion forum.

What type of error dose it give people when they try post ? just a simple:

"you need 25 posts before making suggesting"

I say this because alot of people seem to ignor it and post in general discussion. If it is a simple as the above can it be elaborated for example:

"you need 25 posts before making a suggestion, This is in place so you get to know the community and forums better and also make sure you search to make sure your suggestion hasn't been suggested before and make sure to search through the 'already suggested suggestions thread'."

Something like that, might reduce people just ignoring the rule and posting in other forum sections?

Okay this is the standard vBulletin Acess Denied Message unless the DEV's changed it.
F1ght3r13, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

no wonder so many people ignore it and post suggestion in the general discussion page. i think the denied message should be like how the op put it.

Maybe we could have a no-thread under 25 (or 50) posts in all forums except the tech support forums. That will allow new forum members to get the help they need, while learning the ropes of the forums.

I think that ReadMenace's thoughts on applying the 25 post limit to all forums but Tech Support is the best way to get around all the sugession posts apprearing in General Discussion etc

Perhaps have it as all forums = 25 posts to start a thread except Tech and Off-Topic

what im getting at is they need to be told why they are not allowed to make a thread rather than the default error message posted by fighter.

Agreed.

People will still post no matter what. While the error could be improved it wont stop anyone.

Plus it keeps the MOD's busy

I'm against this artificial limit. Earning 25 posts in the off topic/tech support area doesn't automatically mean you'll be a contributing member of the forum, especially in the off topic thread. You could also be a good chap with good thoughts and feelings, but you'd be excluded from posting because of this artificial limit.

If it has to have any kind of blockage, make it time based; this way even the more mute members can still speak up.

I don't think anyone was discouraging from people contributing to existing threads in the suggestions/general discussion areas -- just not starting new threads. This will severely cut back on threads such as "Add this gun." or "f457r0p35."

I hate it when forums do this. It's nothing but annoying and frustrating to people who have played this game for a while and want to ask questions or make suggestions. You make us read and agree to the rules in order to make a thread, but to make us post 25 times... and not to mention the post count of 15 you need to have in order to even post in the suggestions subsection... It's like asking people to spam the first day they join.

We talked the limit over a bunch, the Pro's and Con's. You would be amazed with the amount of repetitive post that were coming in everyday. If this post limit even causes 10% of people to search before starting a new topic we think its worth it.

While annoying to new forum members its been worth the addition. The amount of new community members that post topics that have been discussed to death is way down. And amazingly the amount of new guys that have ended up reading the manual is up as well. To the extent that I've seen long time members get schooled about things newer members have read.

We really don't do it to piss people off, we do it for the teams sanity.

Why do you have a problem with people posting ideas in the General Discussion? That is actually the best start to a suggestion... Then the DEV's can quickly see what the community thinks about a proposal. If the idea is hated by the community in General Discussion then it is unlikely to be reposted in the suggestions

I understand the benefits. I mean, I've been involved with my fare share of forums over the years. I guess it's just being on the other side of the situation that's getting to me. I've given the manual a good looking over, and put my fare share of hours into this game over the past year. It's hard.. but I guess I'll just have to bite my tongue and do my time at the bottom.

And keep posting like this 'till I get my count up

I remember my first suggestion. SMGs and or carbines for vehicle crews. I turned out fine, didn't I? :p

Ah well, if the higher ups have made a decision, I guess it stands. This is a cheertatership, not a cheerocracy.

Some do, some don't.

I think the post restriction is generally a good idea, although having it say why you can't post there might be nice, for people who aren't paying attention. Or have something where resuggests will be summarily shunned and killed with fire as one of the subforum rules.
