BF2 1.50 patch install problem

I've been trying to install the new patch 1.50 to my game and it looks like everything is going good right up till I join a map...then it kicks me back to desktop. I got the patch from fileplay.net a link from the battlefield.ea.com site. I have completly removed the game from my system and regristry several different times and have reinstalled it with and without the Euro and armor fury patches and it does not matter. Patch 1.41 does install on its own as I have the complete collection DVD. This is becoming very frustrating as I would like to continue to play BF2. If anyone has any new ideas on how I might be able to solve this problem that would be nice. Does the patch need to be in a specific folder in order to play the game or do I need to replace the .exe in the bf2 folder? I'm out of ideas and could use some direction...thanks.
