New to the forum, not so new to PR.
Click on shortcut for PR and get "pr.exe has stopped working".
Uninstalled/reinstalled BF2 and PR twice as directed by the manual, same msg.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have the folder 0001 @ [My] Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles ? If not, start regular BF2, retrieve or make a profile, customize it to your liking, then shut down BF2 and try to start PR.

Just uninstalled BF2/PR for the third time. I'll load BF2 back up and see.
I see a million threads for this. One has to work!

Reinstalled BF2.
Patched 1.4, 1.41, and 1.5.
Installed pr v.874 core and pr v.874 level.
All, in that order
Still getting same msg. about pr.exe has stopped working.
I miss pr.
Somebody has got to have an answer!

Have you followed snares advice ?

Tell me where your profiles directory is, and tell me where your BF2 installation path is.

Profiles directory is in C;program files\EA Games\Battlefield2\profiles.
Installation path is C;program files\EA Games\Battlefield2.
I've retrieved all profiles.
No 0001 folder anywhere in BF2.
Let me know if this helps.
Just out of curiosity... do you have the EXACT installation sequence from BF2 to v.874.
I've seen several and have tried many.

What are the folders inside of *Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles ?

The only sequence I know of is to uninstall everything related to BF2 using Revo Uninstaller, then install BF2, install the 1.41 patch, install the 1.50 patch, then install 0.874.

The folders in the Profile are:
Controls_falcon.con
Haptic.con
Settings.con
There is also a Local\Default file that includes:
FavouriteServers.con
Profile.con
Profile.desc
ServerHistory.con
Sound.con
Video.con

Very strange ... however this seems likely to be your problem. You should have a folder in MyDocuments ... with the path MyDocuments/Battlefield2/Profiles. Inside that folder you should have folders numbered 001, 002, 003 ... 00n , n being the number of profiles you have.

Inside those folders you should have files like Controls.con, General.con, Profiles.con, Video.con, ServerSettings.con etc etc.

This is how BF2 does it by default (in fact I didn't know it could do it any other way .... ), and pr.exe needs to be able to read the profiles directory. If you find such a folder ... trash the 001, 002 etc , and then launch vanilla BF2, and recover your profiles through vanilla BF2. Then close BF2 down and then launch pr.exe. It should then work.

There is a profiles directory in the Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield2 directory, but it shouldn't contain things like Video.con , Audio.con , General.con and Controls.con (and I have no idea what Controls_falcon.con is ... but you need it to be named normally). However dont delete anything ... just make sure that you have the profiles directory in mydocuments/battlefeild2 .

I found the Profiles folder (With the 0001, files, etc.) in My Documents as I was deleting BF2 & PR using Revo.
I should of picked up on it earlier from Snares reply. DOH !
I'll reinstall it in all a couple of days per your sequence and try the things you mentioned.

If you still have problems it is possible for me to remote into your system to try and sort them out, but my time is limited at the moment.

Reinstalled BF2.
Patched 1.4
Patched 1.41
Patched 1.5
Added pr v.874 core
Added pr v.874 levels
Found the Profiles in My Documents and deleted the ooo1 file.
Started vanilla BF2 with the BF2 disc and retrieved my profile.
Exited the game and clicked on the pr v.874 icon on the desktop.
Got same message "pr.exe has stopped working".

You will have to let me remote into your machine. Do you have TeamViewer ?

Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (PR.exe starts up) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
