Okay, last time, I was told that hardcoding is illegal to change. So my new question is, couldnt we offer them advertising, A petition or even money(which the PR community would pay for).?

Unless you could raise several million dollars they will never give you the source code. Even if they did, it would be years before we could do anything with it. They hired a professional programmer to do the 1.5 patch, he was unfamiliar with the code as he was new, look how long it took them to release the 1.5 patch.

they never will guys just because of all the secrets we could divulge about the code to rival games companies.

Hard coded or not, it's just not going to happen.

If we were talking about id Tech 5, sure, just bother John Carmack enough. But this is DICE and EA.

ea have given source code away before, the c&c renegade game they gave it away to a group of modders for free who developed an improved version of the game.

Ok, but this isn't a regular event. It's like asking for FCS in PR. Yes, it's possible, but it's unlikely to happen.

Technically we cannot modify BF2's source code.

Well it's kinda like NR2003. They started modifying the source code (via epic backwards engineering), which was all fine and dandy until iRacing rebought the source code and started suing people for "affecting the sale of future products".

=/

First they would have to obtain the BF2 engine's source code, which would be stealing, which is illegal.

Second, after modifying it, which would likely break some other law, they would be releasing it. By releasing modified, patented, copywrited content, it they not only break copyright laws, but also have to deal with laws protecting patented information/products from being recreated or distributed. And laws about distributing stolen products.

Not impossible, but it breaks about a dozen laws at least.

Also, everybody, please stop using "hardcode" as a verb. "Hardcode" isn't even a word, adjective, noun, or otherwise. "Hardcoded," however, is an adjective describing a feature or idea that is impossible due to irreversible, unmodifiable programming limitations. There are no other variations of this word. There is no present or future tense of it, nor can it be put in to the present progressive tense, or any other.

Actually you can decompile the binary (the .exe) and edit it that way. It's insanely hard and I have doubts that anybody here has the skill or patience to do it much less make significant changes.

That saves you from breaking and entering/burglary charges, but it might not get you around the fact that you are otherwise obtaining the source code without the permission of the developer. All of the laws protecting copywritten/patented products still apply when the PR team modifies and distributes the new binary.

Plus, there is probably something in the license agreement about "do not decompile this software," which can get you sued along with your criminal charges.

Guys, here's the deal. Getting around something that is hardcoded requires direct access to source code. The game is closed source. The EULA states that editing the source code goes against the agreement.

Going against the EULA means going against copyright, and you'll get criminal charges.

So the fact is that if you want fastropes or something that requires direct access to source code, wait for PR2 or just give it up.
