Okay, so my system specs are:
core i7 920 oc'd to 3.2 ghz
3 gigs of ddr3
500 gig hd
gtx 280

Hardware wise i am all set. However for my O.S. I put on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. All installed well, however, when I go to run it, it opens the program, then the screen goes black as if the intro is gunna come up, then it turns to a lighter shade of black, and exits to desktop! I have run it in every compatibility mode from XP Service Pack 2 and up. Any ideas?

Does vanilla BF2 start up OK? If it doesn't, go edit video.con in your profile and set it to the right refresh rate. Check the refresh rate your desktop is set at then edit resolution@##hz.

Im running on Windows 7 Ultimate 74-bit (latest build) with no problems at all .
Check the installation steps , it should go like this :
BF2 > 1.41 patch > 1.5 patch > PR Core 0.874 > PR levels 0.874 .

if you did it right then check your drivers , Windows 7 updates the basics but go to nvidia and make sure you grab the new drivers for your card for windows 7 !

However for me i run the game without an admin access or a compatibility as another OS , if the stuff i wrote were already done let me know ill do my best to help you out

im pretty sure i installed it right, and the w7 drivers are actually vista drivers at the moment until it is released in stores.

The video.con is usually at [My] Documents\Battlefield 2\profiles\0001 and [My] Documents\Battlefield 2\profiles\Default. You should edit them both to the correct resolution and refresh rate. Again, does vanilla BF2 work?

Try renaming Documents\Battlefield 2 to Documents\Battlefield 2_ and then see if vanilla BF2 will start. If it does, retrieve your profile, load a map, then close vBF2 and try to start PR.

Right click the shortcut.
Properties.
In Target add this line of code; "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +fullscreen 0

Then take a screenshot of the error message.

I think Win 7 has this too. If PrntScreen doesn't work. Go to Start and search Snipping Tool. Use that and then post the screenshot here.

it doesnt work with the _. I am gunna check my drivers once more, to make sure there are no conflicts.

i didnt receive an error message when i tried it.

If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Manually trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?

Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

battlefield cleaner wont work for me. I can't get it going without errors. I am very sure it is nothing wrong with PR, but BF2 itself.

Have you completely removed BF2 from your HDD before reinstalling it?
