Does Al Basrah need fixing?

Pretty simple question here,
I think that Al Basrah needs some changes, and i'm willing to do it if i'm allowed (yet to check with a Dev).
Do you guys think that it needs changing?
If so, what changes??
And yes i know this has been tossed around the forums already..
All feedback appreciated

It only needs a single transport chopper imo. What happened to the US version of Basrah that was made a while back?

i'm not too sure about the US version. The heli was removed due to sound bug i believe. I agree it needs a helicopter.

IDK if you guys have played AL Basrah V2, but the black hawks were fun

You can take those things make some sweet gun runs, its a lot of fun to see techs vs. BH

But overall I think the map is kinda flawed. I hate how most of the map is just flat land. Its like Kashan desert it doesn't appeal to the eyes. The worst thing of all, is that the stupid Challenger just camps there and nobody can kill it. Big Red more like big fing target lol. It may seem like a lot of work, but I would love to see the city get bigger, less flat boring land would be nice. But then again its a lot of work, and this is a free mod! So really I have no complaints

i dont think it was removed because of the sound bug, but i miss the old version of basrah[V7.5] which was pretty perfect but now becuase the remove of random spawnpoints[thats the thing i miss most] and removal of the choppers and because of all new insurgency maps that have new buildings and so, i think the map needs update, but more building change, unless you bigger the map, theres no reason to bigger the city, which is still big[i miss the merlin, its so awesome chopper

].
about the flat of the map, the map was supposed to be flat i guess, and in the pub you always see it getting killed in few minutes so thats not a big zero, but roofs will make the map less flat...

It is quite a bit of work but i think the city should be enlarged also. I think a lot of the free space should be filled with some kind of stuff so there is use for it.

Decrease size of map, but make it where the British are not camped out right. And concentrate the action spots.-instead of a whole map, cut off areas that are not needed.
Force the tank to go IN THE CITY with bigger streets, yes. Would be more intense for both sides. Problem is.. they need to make it where the mines disable the vehicle more then just destroys it. Imagine a immobilized tank in the middle of the city and the BlueFor teams attempts to repair/retrieve it while the durkas are trying to blow it up.
Suggestions of the maps for the insurgents are to have the layout where there are more back alleys. That way us players that actually ENJOY playing as insurgents (much more challenging) can move to and fro across the battlefield with lots of cover. Need to be able to hide from enemy armor and take shots at it with the RPG's.
Just my 2cents

Get some vegitation next to the river! Plants like water!
More enterables!
Contact Fuzzhead or a coordinator though cuz I dunno if something is already int he pipeline.

Al Basrah is still by far the best map in PR, in my opinion. The basic structure of the map doesn't need to be touched. If I had the time and know how this is what I'd do:
. As Rudd said, a few more enterables (but not too many) and more vegetation.
. I think the consensus is that it needs to be 3 square km instead of 2.
. The South West of the map could do with some sort of built up outpost or another village.
. Maybe another slightly built up area such as a farm or something north of the river.
. The industrial area to the East could be built up and extended outwards a bit. Someone mentioned a network of walkways over the water in the other thread, that would be awesome.
. Maybe do something with the marshy area to the West of the village, engineer it so that more battles take place there, maybe add a few buildings.
. Maybe very slightly increase the size of the city/switch things round a bit to make it fresh.
. Get rid of the two fords in the river so the Brits must defend the bridges. This adds yet another gameplay dynamic.
. There is absolutely no need for a chopper/s. In fact I think it hinders the gameplay of the map.
. Also the current vehicles need not be changed, the tank is fine, any good insurgent team has no problem taking it out if necessary.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. That is somewhat of a dream scenario, but I would love to see someone with the necessary skills include at least a few of those points in any new version of the map.

The city needs to be redone to the standards of Muttrah. This is an absolute truth.
The upper right side of the map (east of the UK main) needs to do something. Another village or small town or whatever.

God no, as nice as Muttrah is, the city is not up to Asad Khal standards, and that is what every city should be made to. Every building must be enterable.

I think it should be introduced into the Training servers, we need more training maps that have the british forces on them.

it could use a bit of detailed overhaul here and there...

The truth, that is.
The truth is though, that Muttrah was created with a real map as it's basis. ie, googlemaps & loads of ref photos. IMO, if Basrah is to stay in PR, it should be in the form of a new map from scratch based on this:
Another truth is that the runway at Al Basrah Airport is nearly 4k long, so some obvious scaling would have to be done...
Once I've learned, this is the kinda map I will make.
Jonny summs things up nicely.

HangMan, I love the fact that you have like 3 maps on the go, a community faction your trying to get off the ground and now your looking for something more to add to your work load that going on all your other projects, has a very, very slim chance of ever being finished?
Take my advice, finish your current projects, then look for a new project. Pile to much work on and none of it will get done.

IIRC the sky was different in earlier versions. It had more of a "dusty" feeling to it, which enhanced the atmosphere aswell as limiting the view-distance (=less tanks camping).
I like the looks of the city. It really feels like a real city, very dirty and atmospheric. Try to stick with that, don't change anything.
The best thing you can do is probably to make the city itself bigger. Expanding it in all directions, so that the brits will be forced to really move in rather than setting up in the desert and camp the shit out of the insurgents with their long-range weapons.

It's not like they'll let us have aircraft in it anyway

If you are going to attempt to 'fix' it, then you should be starting from scratch. It will end up 1000x better if you start from scratch, with proper references and spend about 1/2 the time planning before you even start up the editor.
Agreed with Jonny... yes its a good map. Yes its old and could use a revamp. But same could be said for most all maps... the revamp would be so great you might as well start another based on real al basrah and go from there.
duckhunt is aware its outdated but he has other projects going atm... but I do believe dr.rank made some edits to albasrah, not sure how much or if they will ever see light of day.
What I'd love to see is the detailing of Fallujah West, especially the west part with compounds, ditches, berms and bridges with all enterable houses, but on a 2km scale (like al basrah). Would be epic map.
And of course we got Sangin which is 4km goodness of same variey
