FireFox v3.5 (now v3.6) crashing?

Hey all.

For some time FF 3.5 has been really getting on my tits. For some reason after it has been opened for a few hrs, it becomes really, really slow and eventually ends up crashing where I then need to restart it, and its then again fine, for a bit of time...

I've tried disabling pretty much all the pulgins and this still happens...

Right now its using 34% of my CPUs, which is over one of my four CPUs just trying to cope with the strain of FF, as well as it chewing up a lot of RAM, that really doesn't sound right to me...

Image

I didn't have any of these problems with FF 3.0, and one of 3.5's biggest features is its meant to be faster...

I'm running on Windows XP x64 edition, 6gbs of ram, etc etc.

Any one have any ideas why this might be happening? My best guess is that for some reason FF 3.5 doesn't like XP x64 but that doesn't give me a lot to go on. Thinking of going back to FF 3.0 unless I can resolve this issue.

Cheers :)

I have seen my mem use at those levels with firefox, but not the cpu...

I was searching, I can´t remember why or for what but I think I read there was a possibly mem leak issue, though I am not sure how bad it is, can´t remember anything else.

That said I notice it gets a little slow at random points but not near enough to call a problem and it never seems to crash.

Less specs than you and a couple of plugins installed, but I am running windows 7 64...

ye, my guess is its some kind of leak issue since it gets worse over time but might be worse for me since I always have loads of different tabs open.

Try using this

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13878

Is it 100% necessary to have FF opened for hours on end? I know it should be able to cope but restarting it every hour or so isn't much hardship.

EDIT: Try THIS and THIS aswell, will keep looking and see if I can find any decent cures for it.

FF 3.5 has been slow for me recently aswell, been debating going to Google Chrome.

Installed this a few hrs ago and since then, everything has been running really smoothly surprisingly. Had FF running for a few hrs now without any restarts and running just fine

Hopefully should help me. I found this f*cking ridiculous, seeing as it would sometimes often spike to 900Kb, with only around 10 tabs open at a time

Wonder if they'll fix it, because I otherwise really like FF (dunno why, but Safari always opens up the page in the same page AND a new tab why I use the middle mouse button :? )

Right now with FireFox 3.6 I'm finding this problem has gotten much worse than before... I just had to type out the same set of feedback three times over because firefox kept on crashing and now when it crashes I loose all my tabs and all my history of what I was doing before the crash, unlike before when I could restore all my tabs etc...

This is rally starting to piss me off to the point I'm wondering if I should just change my browser.... might try google chrome if I can't get this fixed...

Still got that Vacuum thing on but it doesn't seem to help now...

Anyone got any other ideas? cheers :D

I stopped using FF a long time ago, found its far to intensive for what it was doing.

I'd say try chrome, but if your a big user of tabs and bookmarks then Opera is probably your best bet, been a solid user for a few years now and no headaches.

Yea, I think you should give Opera a try. I love it, it's fast, customisable has lots of nice features. And it seems that fewer and fewer sites have compatibility issues with it, which is good since that has been the big issues with it in the past.

Been a die-hard FF fan for a while now, but going to try Opera for a bit after that video.

Have grabbed Opera Mini for my phone as well while I'm at it haha.

You'll never look back, and most of the sites you'll have problems with will be the same in FF anyway.

Ok, quite like it but don't like the lack of an ad blocker.

Flash seems to be playing up as well, but will have a fiddle and sort it out.

There is a built in content blocker, but unfortunately you have to manually block things you find. After a while it covers most of the ads, but it's not perfect.
Something like ABP with streaming lists would be gold.
