Were jets ever on carrier?

Ive been playing PR for about a year now. All versions above .84

I was wondering if jets have ever been on the carrier before.

Is there a possibilty of a catapult system for take off.

Planes like the A10 would be easy to land on the carrier. F16 would needa hook on the bottom of the plane with a wire that catches it when landing. The take off/landing would be fun.

Please post feedback and ideas for landing system.

Yes there have been versions. Main reason you do not see allot of planes in PR now is as a team we haven't gotten to the point where its a team objective. We believe the majority of changes should be done to the 90% player base before we get into aircraft's which only cater to a small minority of players. There are some modders that have come up with system for this but PR hasent committed the time to it. This will change in the future as large maps that can realistically support aircraft emerge.

BTW A-10's do not have the capacity to land on an aircraft carrier.

Oman WAC had jets. That map should've survived.

Yes.

Yes, it has been implemented in the mini-mod for PR (combined arms) but really has very very little actual use in PR.

The A10 is not a carrier based aircraft, and therefore it would be entirely unrealistic to have it launched from/land on a carrier. There really is no actual requirement for the F16 system you suggest, espcecially if realistic carriers are made. The carriers currently in-game are not designed for fixed wing operations, they are more assault ships with the capability to launch helicopters and amphibious vehicles.

Yea search for Combined Arms, it has a catapult and arrested landing system for takeoff and landing! Afaik there is only jets on Kashan and Quinling, and only VTOL and catapulted aircraft can takeoff from carriers. The A-10 would not be one of those.

Way back when in the .3/.4 maybe even .5 days. Don't recall any since.

Yes catapults and arresters are possible...

As far as implementing it into PR?

There are a number of factors that govern that.

1. Having the maps to support it:
You would need large maps (4*4 Kilo) that have a decent amount of coastal water in it.

2. The means to implement it realistically:
Basically if this were to go in PR it would need a Nimitz Class (or comparable) Carrier static model to go with it. Any other way of implementing it would be unreasonably unrealistic. The way we have it set up in Combined Arms is we have basically extended the standard vBF2 carrier to be longer. It is made up of 3 pieces and we added an extra two. This solution would not be acceptable for PR so we really would need to have the Nimitz model that is being developed for CA and USI be completed and good looking. Here is it atm... its still got a decent amount of work left to be completed.

3. The will to implement it:
This I could see not being as huge an issue provided everything were properly touched up and looking good (quality model and reliable non-glitchy system) but ultimately a CATOBAR system would not go into PR without the ok from the PR brass.

Like he said, the carrier in PR, is an Assault carrier, it designed to be a base of operations for the Marines. There to short for the conventional carrier air craft and there not designed to support them.

Best your ever going to get on them is cobra's, and some tomahawks and a few other bits and pieces

Carriers in PR are all assault carriers and are only for helicopter ot VTOL aircraft(Harrier,F35b). A10 would have no ability to land in any sort of carrier, F16 does have a emmergency hook but it has never supposed to be used in any carriers. This is also a re-suggestion

I don't really think any maps that are in PR with carriers need A10s and F16s but thats just me ;)
If someone can make a new map specially for it then I'm totally for it

Once again the only thing holding back this part of realism is the Bf2 engine

maybe a bit off topic

I remember watching clips at boot camp of lots of fire on that ship.
