Hey guys ,

I have a friend with a Dell Inspiron 1318 Laptop , the warranty ran out so i cant send it back for him . he brought once and i fixed it , he brought it back again and it dosnt run the OS (Windows Vista) . later on i realized that the hard drive has been failing ever since and well i need to change it , it gave me an error on the diagnostics (2000-0146) which is basically a faulty hard drive or mobo , for now i hope its the hard drive because that i can change !

now can somebody help me with this problem please ? is there a way around it or do i have to change the HD ? if i have to change it which one should i buy ?

A link from newegg or bestbuy.com would do , size dosnt matter really anything is fine .

thanks guys .

Find out if the drive is IDE or SATA, then try and get an old drive from somewhere that you can put in and test. Put an OS on it and see if you still get the fault, if you do, either that HDD is borked aswell or the mobo is at fault.

Unfortunately trial and error is the only way to solve a problem like this.
