project reality future.

So far project reality been running it has had a very bright furture and from the looks it will continue to bring new updates.

By interest and rather question is, with games like operation flashpoint and ARMA2 coming out/ allready out isnt project reality a bitt dated now.

I say this as it is a good mod but like all mods is limited to the engine which it uses which is BF2 engine and such there is only so much you can do within it.

Compare this to engines like flashpoint which about to be released with a very impressive graphics engine i wonder how project reality will fair.

Is project reality going to stick with bf2? or have they considered moving onto a differant engine, i say this as for a mod it done very well, but to keep it self high up on the best mod/good game list it will have to adapt and such probally change game engine.

do you guys think/feel project reality getting dated now? or do you think it a classic and will hold its ground vs such games like flashpoit and ARMA2.

p.s i didnt include COD2MW2 as i think its fair to say no matter how good the engine it cant really compare to PR :)

oh god not anouther of these posts...

Everyone said ArmA1 would kill PR when it came out. did it? Simple answer, No... In fact PR has only gotten stronger since ArmA1 came out. Did ArmA2's release kill PR? No... Will OFP2 kill PR? I'm predicting it wont.

These games dont and never will offer the same thing PR dose and for that reason PR will be around for a long time yet.

Ask yourselves this, what game out there can compete in ACTUAL GAME PLAY to PR?
Not one I can think of, maybe better graphics, a sexy engine, or perhaps more weapons-basically cosmetics.

My clan and I have discussed this plenty of times on if we should move over to OPF2..

OPF2 is not only ported for Consoles, it also has (I felt) cut down to work with the consoles players wise with the promise of adding more players (on release is only 32 while expansion is 64) and a song.

Question is, HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT GO 64 IN THE BEGINNING!??!! Is that not a step backwards in the attempts to push games to the future? Sounds like an excuse to charge you 80 US dollars rather then just 60dollars. By charging you another 40 for the expansion.

Looking at the previews.. It all looks pretty dumb down :( People would argue to make up for the lack of players, they have AI's. Screw that, only thing an AI would do to you is give your position away and get murdered by any decent PR player.

Arma2 did not even force you to work as a squad, you can go rambo'ing to your hearts content. Inorder to have squad work, it has to be hosted as an "Event" while Events in PR is actual whole teams.

How does a game/mod with a 5plus year old engine still compete with brand new releases? Need to ask Arama2 devs that :)

End Rant.

You would be really lucky to find any other game out there than more weapons (and factions) than PR. Name one game that even has the full British armed forces in it?

If you look at OFP2's weapon list, basically all they have is the M4, the M16A4, QBZ-95, anouther Chinese assault rifle (forgot the name), 2 pistols, 1 frag grenade and smoke grenade (used by both factions), a combat knife, a few more weapons and that's about it, with the only thing making there weapon list look long is they list every variation of each assault rifle with different scopes, bipods etc.

VBS isn't a game thou, its a military simulator which ARMA is based on and the only reason why it has British kit in it is because the British Army brought the simulator.

ye, but still only the bare essentials to get the game out and really nothing more.

yea that what i thoguht when they said over 60 diffrent weapons...does that mean like 12 base wewapons and a whole bunch of add ons?

any way..i think the future of PR is bright, despite all those other newer games coming out...gmaes never killed PR, it only made some people divide their time between PR and that other new shiny game they got, but they always played PR....once your hooked...your hooked

I dont think any engine yet is as capable as the BF2 engine in terms of PVP.

ArmA2 has ALOT of network problems with higher player counts (especially join in progress, a vital feature for TVT), and really is a game meant to be played in a private group. It CAN be modded so there is some future for it, but the base game, there is much to be desired.

I think OFP2's main focus will be like ArmA2, COOP. So it dont directly compete with PR...

Future for PR1 is looking great I think, and if some competition comes up, can only be good thing I think..

thats crazy, someone hoping for a 3rd installment despite the 2nd game still new.

On OPF2, the devs apparently pushed the demo POST launch, so they still keep the promise of the demo, but made it where most of us would buy it to play it instead of waiting on the demo.
Probably due to the failures of Arma2(they do look a bit similar.
