Everyone knows how it can be sometimes complete hell for INS mode pilots so lets share some tips and tricks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make a habit of flying at least 300, so you have a better view of whats below you before you swoop down and attack.

Having a co-pilot gives you a MUCH better chance of surviving AA missiles, they take the missile dmg opposed to the LB quite often.

You should always fly in reverse and gain alt when leaving your mainbase. Lots of AA campers these days.

When a tech is firing at you in the middle of the desert, never run away. Your only chance of survival is to kill him.

Change the default key for getting in and out of vehicles to Z. I've seen too many lb pilots jump out of their craft when they wanted to shoot flares. :?

When you hear a PKM gtfo outta there! You can't see their fire as well as techs, but they will kill you just as easily.

Work with a spotter or with squads on the ground. Get a valid CAS request before you leave main. Request information on the target building, reports of tech's in the area, and if there were any SA-7's spotted in the last 5 mins. If the guys on the ground can suggest an approach angle then thats even better, as you cannot identify heights of buildings accurately from the map. Climb to 200-250 over main and use that as your transit altitude to the IP. From your predetemined IP start the attack run. Deploy one set of flares at the start of the run and on the egress (more if SA-7's spotted previously).

When working with infantry squads for CAS requests, i never accept a target without a lase. Its not desired, but acceptable to only use a marker when working with a spotter. Make one run at a time. Loitering=Death in an AH-6. Studying the map and briefing a route and visual waypoints i find is a must.

If the SL's dont require CAS (which is most of the time), work with your spotter to engage tagets of oppertunity, such as Big Red,Bomb cars, Technicals, and infantry on rooftops. You would be suprised at the amount of INS who dont take the threat of the AH-6 seriously or forget about it, as rooftops are the perfect spot for an RPG/PKM gunner. Working with the spotter helps to eliminate these threats for the rest of your team.

Use ammunition sparingly. This will improve your efficiency and on-station time dramatically. Too often i've seen 14 Hydra 70's wasted on 2 INS with AK's. Even technicals will succumb to 4-5 hydras coupled with miniguns. The same with bomb cars, miniguns will dispatch these effectively, but it's wise to use a few hydra's if its in an urban environment when the car presents a prependicular target between buildings.

These are the tactics i use on Karbala, which i find very effective.

Z is next to X meaning that it increases the chance of bailing out instead of decreasing..
