iirc there was a discussion on this, R-DEV Katarn or someone was gonna add the non-retractable stock and the heat sink thingy jiggy whatever thingy on the front, I guess its got bumped in favour of more important projects (since its mostly an aesthetic change)

Thanks for the quick respond, anyway it would be extremely cool if someone could have the SAW whit the classic heat sink and barrel unlike used by the Army(the on in PR now whit all the stuff)

Those versions which were given to the USMC in the late 80's are being phased out in favor of more modern M249's, those with the modern PIP or Product Improvement program, advancements. Those early FN Minimi's were improved because they gave soldiers plenty of burn, fatigue, etc. The M249 PARA, Which is being used in limited numbers, is a more compact version of the picture above. The truth is, the one in the picture is used more than the Para version.

not to mention, the M249 with the para/m4 buttstocks and RIS handguard system are being filtered out of the army for the new MK48's (I believe they are called) as I read in the Army Times newspaper.

so if we were to switch to the old 249 it would seem like an illogical step backward toward reality.

I am army however, MC might be different, but they normally seem to want better weapons too

Yea don't both the US Army and Marine Corps use the M249 SAW as opposed to the FN Minimi??

The m249 in rampo's post is looks way much cooler then the m249 in PR : o
And I think the USMC use those m249's not the ones in PR

The M249 SAW is a deriviative of the FN Minimi. The practical differences (particularly between the M249 and the Minimi as currently produced) is tiny and would have no effect on gameplay.

Additionally, much like Minimi, M249 covers a number of different weapon configurations, such as the original M249, the M249 PIP, M249 Para and M249 SPW.

Any change from the current model would be entirely asthetic and so is low priority. The model currently ingame is perfectly serviceable as a representation of the equipment currently used by the United States Marine Corps.
