Opening doors???

Hello,

I'm a long time lurker here...anyway, it just crossed my mind that would it be possible to code [or whatever it is you guys do to make a game] doors into the BF format? It would open a whole new era of possibilities. Think about it, closed doors, a bit of CQB in the mix. Rainbow Six style embassy mission for example?

What do you think?

I remember reading on this forum that it is indeed possible, but with too many doors comes lag, apparently.

Yet to see it put to use though.

My guess is that the answer will be that something as simple as opening doors is far too advanced for the BF2 engine :-\

Its possibal I think, there is a door in 1 of the stock models that where never used but if you put it in a map, you got a CTD on load.

the big problem is, if you include 1 door, then every door "could", be a real door. So ppl are going to try every door they can see to see if its "locked" or unlocked ect. Which will take for ever on karkand

Yeah, its a bit like CoD, all doors that you can go through are unlocked and open, so you always know where to go

I think bf2 is just to fast paced and doors wouldnt really fit in with the style of action. The 'Open' buildings are fine imo, this isnt exactly SWAT4. Given the complications of programming aswell.

Well unless open doors were Red and fake ones were blue or something? Perhaps only larger doors, like say shove a door on the front/back of the TV station

I'm happy with it is at the moment. The bulk of fighting takes place in the street, but with the few open houses it's still possible to do mini room clearances. I think it's more of a need for some talented modellers to make a few more interesting open buildings based on existing models that the DEVs could replace current buildings with. I'm getting tired of just having the TV station and that same house with the steps and rugs on the floor...

I think it would change the game play... make it a little slower, but were going after realism right?

I like the idea of the occasional door. Only put them in signicant places, and sparingly; Such as in places immediately ajacent to an objective.

We were able to put a couple of doors in our map with triggers seem to work really well. I like the idea of checking houses on the way down a street.

i agree

i also like the idea of new buildings to go inside, maybe some buildings that over look objectives, or an objective is on a roof, and you have to go through one building to gain acess to that roof.

if opening and closing doors couldnt done, id be happy with a few destrutable doors, it would be add to the game if we could attach a breaching charge to them or ram them with a jeep to gain entry(rember that scene when british commandos stormed a basrah place). More indoor enviroments away from angry tanks and roming arty would be a big plus..... just along way off

Possible

Im pretty sure its possible. The door would be a destructible environment and it can take like 10 damage (Shotgun blast, C4, Kick would break) and add kick as a option

If it was a destructible environment then it would be a static object, no?
Ghosty, how was it done? Are they vehicles? That's the only way I've figured it can happen. I can't script for my life so if that's it then it figures.
