Are the bullet, explosion, and impact sounds for PR copyrighted, or can I use them for a video project in my school?

I think it would be most likely copyrighted, but it can't hurt to ask  .

No considering they didn't make all there sounds plus its a mod not a retail game. And even if you were using copyrighted things its a school project not a whole new game.

You would be wrong. It is all copyrighted (By either PR, individual contributors, Dice etc. based on the origin of the work). Read your license agreement.

Sorry to bother with this but I don't know for USA copyright laws but in Europe, any intellectual work (pedagogy, educational like school project, university thesis,...) copyright items can be used as long as you have the right of the owner and you mention it. Since, it is for school and you won't make profit from this, there are no problems.

Again, it is for copyright laws in Europe.

only if the copyright owner allows non-commercial use ;)

people already paid thousands of dollars for having a hand full of copyrighted images on their personal (non-profit) websites for example.

To be clear, I am talking about a educational matter (about pedagogy) when I said intellectual work. I am not talking about website or forum or blog or whatever non-profit stuff.

As far as I am concerned, as long as his video stays inside his school, there are no problems (there will be if he puts that video on the net).

Email the request to me

gaz [at] realitymod.com

I'll then put a formal request into the sound artists. I would however need to clarify with them as to what is PR's IP (created by us) and what sounds are still vanilla (very little). As a minimum requirement, credit would need to be given where sounds are used, as well as acceptance that any given permission would only cover the scope in which it was granted (for a non profit, educational project).

I can only speak for Germany in this regard... but we had for example a parody of a popular German song in the kind of school-graduation-newspaper or however you wanne call it and the text was actually replaced by a text on the teachers and school etc.. but somehow the rights owners found out and demanded quite some money.

ok in this case it was commercial as these are sold to the pupils and parents etc in order to finance the graduation party... but it is astonishing where they look for money etc :D

for solely educational purposes in school i guess they theoretically could also charge money just like they could for example on youtube... but it seems to be not worth the effort for them.

btw this is a good source for sound files of all kind which i can recommend to anyone looking for general sound effects - they also can be used commercially as long as you attribute the author

Weird though because I had a course about copyright law when I was in university and we saw that parody (using a specific target and change it in a parodic manner) can't be a copyright infringement due to the article L. 122-5 4° of the Intellectual Property Code. However it depends on how the parody is close to its target.

But that's another story lol.
