I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I felt lazy after browsing the search results.
I was wondering why in some matches I play when my squad asks for someone to be the designated marksman, and when there are no sniper squads, the person who volunteers usually prefers to pick a sniper over a marksman rifle. When they do this, they seem to do better at killing far-away enemy squads and keeping them at bay than they do with a marksman rifle.
Doesn't this devalue the whole idea of how snipers and marksmen work, since sniper kits are treated like they are part of a squad, and marksmen kits are just the "inferior" version when sniper kits are unavailable?
I'm just wondering what things are going to happen in future releases to solve this, or ways that can prove in this release that a marksman kit is better as a squad weapon (aside from the shovel).
Edit: If my name sounds weird, sorry about that. I use it in some games that the community will eventually figure out what it means, but I forgot that in larger ones like here that it will not likely happen.

The marksman will be deployable, and therefore more accurate and able to provide more rapid fire in 0.9.

i prefer "squad" snipers anyway, but no one is willing to play the role and normally ends up needing to be kicked from my squad after i check the map and they are 500m away doing their own thing.

The marksman rifle is OP in my opinion.
If the enemies are pinned down, you can waste them easyly. If they are not, well.... You wouldn't have much luck with the sniper either.
On insurgency there is no real purpose for a sniper/marksman either than to use the scope to look for baddies coming out of a cache location.
I think of marksman more defence-wise anyways... but thats because its getting a bipod.

imho, its not that sniper rifles are better and marksman rifles are inferior, but each has its own strengths and weakness. for national forces in PR (US, PLA, MEC for example) the sniper rifle has a much lower rate of fire than a marksman rifle which is probably some kind of battle rifle with a good scope. the marksman rifle can put more rounds down range faster than the bolt action sniper rifle. so their function is different.
as for PR, the sniper is a limited kit (as is the marksman) and so its use should be restricted to "sniper" squads only which have a spotter and maybe a specialist with a grapple or a medic or something. snipers in PR should not be on the front, unlike the marksman, but have a good vantage point to provide intel and fire only on high value targets like squad leaders and medics.
if i make a INF squad and some1 gets a sniper rifle i kick him always. marksman kits i allow only sometimes. i think people who get sniper rifle kits every chance they get are comming from BF2 vanilla

I ussually lead a sniper squad with marks/bolt action kits, but I am never a sniper. I'm waiting for v.9
I am ussually a grapple hook, its alot of fun to use binocs to spot for soldiers anyhow.

Glad to see bipods on the M21 (and I assume on the other marksmen rifles too).
I do understand that marksmen can lay semi-automatic fire as opposed to snipers, but I also find that most people who volunteer to be a sniper are the type that are experts on using snipers in most video games, and can kill with only a single shot or two, regardless of the range of the enemy or his current situation.
Two tactics I've seen squads with this kind of person use tactics such as:
- Regular riflemen lay suppressive but intentionally inaccurate fire on a distant enemy squad, and when the enemy feels pinned down, the sniper takes his time to headshot each soldier one by one
or
- When a squad is moving up to an enemy position, the sniper stays on a hill that has a clear view of the area and can oversee his squad. However, I believe this might actually be the appropriate role of a sniper, because he is separate from his squad and really is part of the squad only so he can communicate with them.

Sniper will just suck compared to new marksman rifles. And I'm glad, because my friend keeps using sniper for everything but recon, so he will be actually useful now.

Having a sniper in An infantry squad is just taking a spot up when you could have another rifle on the ground.
Leave the sniper rifles for the "Sniper" Squad the sniper has no place in the City or town it should be out side covering points of interest such as high traffic areas of the enemy letting its team know whats coming there way and taking out high value targets (Bluefor = Sl, Medic) (OpFor = Sl, Medic, Scoped MG).
Preferably the sniper should know not to silhouette itself on a hill or At the window of a building rather than beneath the brow under a tree or with the tree behind, or further back from the window.

Snipers are good for inf squads that are turtling the East Beach on Jabal.
Snipers are also useful for long range support in team-large convoys. If you're in a squad that holds back while the other squads move in, a sniper is good for taking down distant targets.
From my experience, for the US and Chinese factions, the sniper beats the marksman by a long shot.

Was the pun intended?
I was going to post something that might belong in the suggestions forum. Can I post it here anyways? If not, I'll just keep this topic to only what we have now and will have in the future.

I swear everyone plays a different PR to me.
Nothing you can be done with a Sniper kit that with a little teamwork can't be wickedly surpassed with a HAT.
Nothing can be done with a Marksman kit that with a little teamwork can't be wickedly surpassed by an AR.
I'm sure it will change in time, but that's how it is, and how it has been for quite some time.

How about simultaneously killing an officer and a tank. At 700m. Or killing that same officer next to/under an enemy tank. lol
Never say never

Yes. The HAT is the perfect sniping weapon. As long as you have a lot of ammo

True, but I would like to see the "markman" kit...be more marksman like in the way of accuracy.
The red dot scope is more accurate.....and realistic.

Just to note, I used the words "squad sniper" instead of "sniper squad" because I am referring to squad members using sniper rifles, not squads made for snipers.
Also, I do admit to abusing the realistic role of weapons. I sometimes (if not, frequently) carry around an anti-air missile launcher even though there are no enemy aircraft. I use it because it is ALWAYS available, it can scare enemies with its appearance and sound, and has very long range. Although actual success of using it is poor, I once killed a MEC sniper on the hills of Muttrah with the Stinger.

If the marksman is able to deploy his rifle in 0.9, the sniper kit l33t junkies won t waste the sniper kits as much as now and the real recon squads can get their kits with the gltd easier .

YOU GOT IT!
It's Iverson, but close enough. I usually find that 1 out of 30 people in a game will figure it out.
But I suck with usernames, so that's why I have what I have. I play under AdderEye because that makes more sense to players and it sounds close to Adr I, which some players call me.
