Title basically:

I double click the PR shortcut (Or the PR in the mods folder) and The game window comes up displaying all the logos. My screen goes black as if it's starting up, then after a couple seconds it's back on the desktop without any notifications.

Put +fullscreen 0 behind the path in your shortcut's properties to see the error message.

Here's the error:

Tried reinstalling BF2 and patching, then installing core then levels. Same error.

Run 1.41 then 1.5 again
BF2 not updated to v 1.41 before patching with v1.5
FULL update 1.41

Some have posted Updating with the
1.41 update
Sometimes does not complete, but looks like it does.
To find your version of BF2
run PR in 'windowed' mode
Look at the upper left corner
you should see
v.1.5.3153-802.0

Installation timeline

1. Install BF2

BF2:SF Expansion | --- If you have BF2:SF, here is where it should be installed.

2. Install Battlefield 2 v1.41
3. Install Battlefield 2 v1.5
4. Install the latest PR Build (Currently: v0.874)

I ended up uninstalling PR, installing 1.41, then 1.5. Then reinstalling PR.

It's working now.
