So reading that PR Needs OPFORs, and talking to [R-DEV] AD, I decided to propose this faction, the Venezuelan Army, ruled by Hugo Chavez

Design Plan: Click ME

---If you read through you can see alot of the assets are being modeled or are already in-game. Making the faction would be less time consuming than creating a fresh faction.

If you wish to Join and help the Team in Any way, shape, or form, please do not hesitate to PM Wilkinson
  1. Thoughts on the Army?
  2. Thoughts on the Concept?
  3. Remarks on the Design Plan?
Everything you need to know is in the Design Plan. The basics are added currently and more will be added as the Mod Progress, The Core Priorities are going to be handled first. Then Maps and Soldier Models etc.

Looking at your kit plan, the equipment isn't properly lined up. The smoke is in a Slot 2, when it should be a Slot 5 weapon. Reason being, weapons need to whatever slot they are designated or the game doesn't recognize them. You can change the Slot # but it just takes up space, which I'm sure PR could go without.

There is a forum member whose brother is an Armor officer in the Venezuelan army. I cannot recall his handle at this time -- he has pretty detailed information about the small arms in use by Venezuela.
I'd lose the P90.

If you Run into him please send him my way :)

P90 is just there as placeholder. Might Replace with something else. Possibly MP5

Right, well I didn't know the PR Exact Number Keys for what Weapons. Eitherway the assignment will be at proper standard when time to make kits

Hmm, I kind of like this idea. What if we make a couple of maps like insurgency versus drug cartels or FARC... of course, that's more Colombia. I like the idea. Maybe something like USMC landing on Venezuelan coast making a sort of South American Muttrah.

A quick Wikipedia says that the AK103 will replace the FAL. I'd give standard Riflemen the AK103 and stuff like LAT, Medic, HAT, and AA the AK101. Venezuela already has it stocked. I'd think the sniper kit would get a German rifle, maybe that MSG that some people are recommending or perhaps the Druganov SVU or SVD.

I really think we need a South American theater.

I like this idea, south american forests would make for a good map, and there are a few statics that can work there already. Reskinning some of the muttrah statics probably wouldn't work badly.

Good. More conventional and modern "OpFor" armies are needed. After Iran, Venezuela is the most obvious choice.

To give them a more organized feel I would replace all G3s and FALs with the AK-103.

IIRC they have also ordered some Russian equipment that is already modeled ingame. Such as the Mi-28, BMP-3 and T-90s/T72s. Looking at the wiki-page of their Air Force I see that they mainly use F16s and Su-30s, both are ingame already (I recall that I've seen an Su-30 on Qinling, but I might be wrong).

I would definitely like to see this faction realized.

Venezuela might be going to war with Columbia soon IRL, possibly involving the US.

"Hours earlier, Chavez urged his military leaders to prepare "for war" and to ready citizens to "defend the homeland," as tensions continue to mount over fractious ties with neighboring Colombia."

"The comments come at a tense time for the region as Colombia signs a controversial military agreement with the United States to let US forces use seven military bases in Colombia for anti-drug operations."

Great ! At the moment, Venezuela is the most obvious and appropriate choice for a new OpFor !!

I made a design plan too for this faction long time ago. => here Looks like we roughly has the same basic idea about kit layouts.

-AK-103 as standard rifle (I chose the PSO optic because the Army bought a lot of them with the last SVD order, but current Russian 1P29 is nice too)
-FAL as a secondary rifle (I also think it would be nice to see this old gun in action)

I recommend you to drop the G3 (haven't seen one Venezuela Army picture with it), the P90 and Glock 17 as well (I prefer the Browning anyway ^^).

I didn't found any info about FV106 use, but they got some EE-11 Urutu, both .50 turret and 20mm variant (for "Marines" I think) but they might have been withdrawn from service cause of the arrival of newly bought BMP-3, which could replace altogether all Venezuela outdated APC, IFV and MBT (the French AMX-30 has cardboard box armor). I read something about a modernized T-72 order, but there's so little info it might be a fake.
I say stick to the BMP-3 as the main armored vehicle and discard the rest for now.

For your "Land Transport" category, throw away everything : Venezuela produce its own jeep and has begun to use it :

Tiuna :
ImageImageImageIt can be used as an anti-aircraft vehicle as well (two Mistrals AA)

For air assets : they use new Mi-17, Mi-35M (no model in PR atm, so we might use the Mi-28 Havok, Venezuela bought ten last year). Still, the Mi-35M would be awesome. The Army also use the Huey.

TBH, North Korea seems more obvious than those two. But hey...

Sorry for being OT.

BTW,
What happened to those argentinian, brazilian and columbian com-mods?

I think having the venezuelan government in-game would be the "new scenario" for 1.0.

The country looks like it could offer some good scenarios. Like if you look north of the country on google maps there are some remote islands wich NATO can be using as a staging point. This could be a great map where the Venezuelan army atacks and blufor defends.
Just a little unrealistic suggestion :P I may be getting abit carried away but this faction brings so many scenarios into the game.
US and NATO allies invade Venezuela and due to the close relations with Iran. While NATO is having their hands full with Venezuela, Iran(MEC) decides to contribute to the fight and invades Israel. And there we open another battlefield scenario with IDF fighting MEC.

Also the faction would introduce the south american battlefield and enviroment.

Tbh.. I have no idea why people are doing Czech or Norweigan factions.. or New Zeeland.. I think everyone should contribute to one faction and make PR alot better. I for sure will contribute to this faction when it starts walking.

I agree

I really don't see the point of creating so many factions without adding real new gameplay features.
New models/skins don't add too much to the overall gameplay, a tank is always a tank, and a rifle always a rifle, even with brand new polys and fancy textures, they are the same damn thing, nothing new... I wanna see innovation.

At least Venezula will not be fighting Talibans/Insurgents, and there is a oportunity to see new enviroments, tactics maybe.
