tourniquet

I was playing as a insurgent when it came across my mind, people that arent in a service use tourniquet for survival purposes,so, why shouldn't a insurgent or tali. Now i know that the talis/insurgent dont get med packets as a metaphor for poor medical assistance, but a tourniquet is very reasonable. The tourniquet doesnt have to be as effective as the med packets, but it just so sensible to me. I mentioned it to some others on voip and they agreeded. I want to know others peoples thoughts.

Unfortunately bleeding is 'stopped' by healing above a certain threshold, but there is no conceivable way to restrict the amount of healing dressings or in your case tourniquets can give if given repeatedly. Can you imagine the insurgents healing to full hp just by using tourniquets?

lol agreeded...
would be a great idea if the bleed system was implemented in a different way but as Chuc says, it's all based on health percentage so such a thing isnt possible, it would only be an aesthetic change

what if its a only self administered object?

Then they'd be instantly healing themselves
Besides tourniquets don't quite work that way -- you need help to put it on, and once it's on that limb is out of service.

They are also very dangerous to use.

tourniquets should be used in particular circumstances, its not a 'its bleeding, fix it' tool.
e.g. you have arterial bleeding from a leg wound, even then you'd release it every few mins or so to prevent loss of the leg (unless by trying to save the leg you put the casualty in mortal jepardy)
Though tourniquets aren't hard to improvise, if your suggestion was to give teh INS/Tali a less regular model for their bandages, like ripped clothing called 'improvised bandages' or something, that would make sense to an extent.

Yeah, make it with limited ammo and you can have an stripping insurgent, each ''bullit'' is one of his clothes :
Just kidding

Tourniquets are used by almost all forces, they are not just an improvised "oh shit" thing. Most US soldiers and all medics carry CATs ( Combat Application Tourniquet)
CAT Webiste.
They are used to stop heavy bleeding when pressure bandages don't work. Which is often the case with arterial bleeds as Rudd mentioned. You could also apply QuickClot or a shrimpshell bandage, but tourniquets have been the go to forever. Basically if you are bleeding enough you need a tourniquet your going to be out of the fight.
Rudd, SOP used to be and I think still is: If your in combat and you've applied a tourniquet it isn't coming off until your in the hospital and they can get more blood into you or else the chances are pretty high the causality will desanguinate and then thats the end of that.

But can we have the civilian be able to strip? ;P
Can be a good distraction maneauvre for the insurgents, while they plant their IED's or get RPG's ready.

I just thought it would be a nice and VERY realistic addition.
Senario:
I have a sapper kit, I got a ied and i run into the center of the road to place it. In doing so i am fired upon. I make it to cover but im am injured. I apply the tourniquet but it takes 30 seconds,or more time. Its something that will take sometime to accomplish. Its applied and I Can now see better but i am still bleeding out. This still gives me a lil chance to do something useful instead of sitting blind waiting on some one to come up on me. If the tourniquet can give me a little window of time 1-2-3-5 minutes before i go blind again it would be worth it. Either way i spend 1-2 minutes blind.
On a side note, i have a self-administered tourniquet kit . Why? my dad,who was a combat engineer rank e9, gave it to me for Emergency's, he told me to put it in my car. so the whole "u cant do it your self" just got debunked. He likes to mention that any one can use it, it can save you momentarily. Read that last word. Its a last resort effort which can still change the tide of the situation, you may be limited to mobility and strength/stamina but not a as limited as BLIND! To this is what i bring my point to. All that i imply are from his training, he has served 22 years and i am completely confident on his knowledge, not a "maby" opinion or what are in movies.

yeah, your right, my training deals only with people in Britain and similar countries where you're generally not far from a medical facility and no1 is shootin at ya

I still don't think you understand the limitations the bleeding system has. However bleeding via python hasn't been investigated yet, but that stuff is beyond my knowledge.

Ok, if I tourniquet my leg, I can't walk anymore. If I do it on my arm, I can't grip anything anymore. Also, as Hitperson has said, if it's on for a period of time over 12 (that's what I learned in first aide courses as the cut off time), then that limb begins to die. Forever.
