Donation Question

I am from the US, and my brother is in the UK, and we both feel like donating towards PR, yet we are unsure of wether or not you are a non-profit organization or a business, so I can claim it on my taxes. Help me out?

Ummm I believe it's just a non-profit.

PR is a not-for-profit organisation.
Donations are used for server costs etc.
Think of it as a charity but instead of your hard earned cash going to help some poor African children you get to feed a Dev for a day.

Project Reality runs in a not-for-profit manner, although for obvious reasons we are not a charity and we are not a UK or US registered company (that I'm aware of!).
As Jigsaw says, the only thing that donations are used for is to cover the costs of web hosting, file hosting, build-server hosting and licenses for software required to provide those services - our vBulletin license, for example.
No money is ever diverted to personal bank accounts or to provide products or services for individual developers. Where DEVs require new software - C4 licenses, Photoshop, 3DS etc - the funds come out of their own pocket.
In short, I'm pretty sure that you're not able to claim the tax back - and in the UK, I'm sure that your brother cannot. Sorry!
Many thanks for considering donation and regards,
Masaq
