Hey Guys A friend who isn't on the forums would really like some help with running bf2/PR with windows Vista 32 bit.

He has got a good pc easily can bf2 on high.
-6 gigs of ram
-gtx 295
-1tb hdd
-win vista 32
and a sound blaster card with creative drivers
He is also running BF2/PR.exe in Windows Xp mode.
He Also has installed the Alt-Tab Fix.

So his problem with PR is when he joins the server on certain maps when he clicks squad assignment/or sometimes a spawn point it CTD (crash to desktop)
Also randomly while hes playing it CTDs as well with no error message

This also happens with bf2
He randomly will crash every 4 mins or so and but other times he will be fine.

Anyways i have no idea what the problem is
He has ran BF2 and PR in windowed mode and no error message appeared >.x

Tried putting his textures on medium all that did was increase the amount of time before he crashes again from like 4 minutes to 15 minutes i guess its working somehow but its still a problem...

Anything else that might work?

Tell him to run as vista and run it as administrator :-/

Sounds like a memory issue.
He should upgrade to an O/S that can use the 6 gigs he has.
Since he has Vista 32, he should consider W7 64bit
Gamers seen to like it.

PS BF2 was written for XP not Vista, so running BF2/PR in compatibility mode (XP) and as Admin is recommended.

He can also try a 3party app (like AMD FUSION) to shutdown background app and services to free up ram and CPU cycles while gaming.
Good luck

I have the same problem. Vista, played well for 3-4 yrs, now checks the desktop ev 30 min with a ping. To me, seems more likley to be some automatic check for update, from a different program, ie. yahoo messinger. unknown bug whatever it's new to Vista.
