My Vista decided to freeze while updating. The odd thing is, if I move the mouse (I'm working on a notebook btw), it shows the screen again, but it won't do anything since it hangs at update 7/26. What was even more odd, was the fact that when I activated my laptop out of 'sleeping mode', it gave all kinds of errors about the programs I was running. I can't recall them, unfortunately. Problem is, I'm stuck with a notebook, with all my important school work on it, and I don't dare to restart it, fearing it'll completely fry my Vista. (although atm it isn't in a good state either)


Any help? It's kinda urgent, since I can't do anything right now.

Edit: Restarted laptop in safe-mode, but I got this weird error again. It's in Dutch, unfortunately.
It says:"[long directory] is not suitable for Windows, or contains an error. Try to re-install the program by using the original installation CD, or contact the system manager or the software provider for support.

I've updated the first post with a picture of the error. Strangely enough, it gives the same bloody error for every program I'm using. Really odd.

Could you translate the error to english at all?

Also, what was update 7 of 26?

I got no idea what update 7/26 is/ was. I manually updated this afternoon, but two files are still not able to install. I also tried to re-install .net framework, but as a result, I cannot re-install them, because it gives me a MSVCR.80.dll error, as you can see in the first post.

My OS is basically handicapped. I can start things like Limewire, virus scanners and (web)browsers, but applications ranging from MSN messenger to games aren't able to do anything. All of them have the same error. I located the .dll file, and I got him in my sights, but what should I do with it? Remove? Copy it to another map?

The error starts already when it's loading in Vista, with the logo. (once again, all of them are the same error, as you can see in the first post) Then I get another one before the log-on screen. After I'm logged in, I get ~20 errors of all kinds of applications I got installed on my OS.


Edit: I tried a crapload of things to fix the problem. Register defrag, Register cleaning, HDD error check, system reset (the Windows version, where you can reset your data to a certain date), virus scanning, restoring MSVCR80.dll files from applications, data recovery applications, re-installing .net framework. I don't know what else to do, to be honest.

In windows update it'll have install history and a list of things. What is the error code next to the latest update to have failed next to it?

Nevermind Robbi. Thanks for your help, but I was too fed up with it, and the weekend is too short to wait any longer, unfortunately. There's school stuff that's gotta be done, so I installed W7 on my laptop. Still got no idea what the problem was, but I'm glad I got rid of it.

Fair doos man, win updates are a bugger if they fail, and i have a feeling one of those was a service pack for vista.

There was probably no way back with this one, it was too damaged. Good thing HP included HP Recovery on my notebook.
