How do I get the mod to work on steam?

Hi i just bought the battlefield 2 collection on steam and I wanted to play this mod because it looks very fun. But i don't think it works on steam because you have to start a independent exe. which i think is dumb, but whatever. So how do i get this mod working on steam? Please devs make this compatible with steam.

Found this using the handy search feature on this forum with the word 'steam'
