Hey, i have a suggestion.
Instead of having the Logi Truck giving repairs, can you make it so its one of those objects you can create next to an FOB, like the AA and HMG. So APCs and Tanks they can make field repairs at...
Hmmm let me see, ah! There is a FOB! driver take me there!
I just find it hard to organize someone to drive with the logi truck all the way to the tank.
What do we think?

Would be a nice addition but it might be harder when the Firebase is constructed in hilly terrain, and i think this has been re-suggested... i remember something familiar

Very easy to exploit, deploy a "Repair Station" next to a good camping spot, camp there with your tank, any hits you take you will instantly get repairs while your firing back at your target = not good.
Having a recovery vehicle is far more realistic.

I would prefer a Dedicated recovery vehicle - one that automatically repairs vehicles around it, and maybe even has something that can let it push other vehicles to unflip or move them would be cool

dedicated recovery vehicle = making a new vehicle for each faction (that's around 6 new vehicles, more in the long run as well) and worst of all, taking anouther player off each team if not even more to do the rare job of being able to recover a vehicle, which would most likley mean because it isn't something that is constantly needed, most players wouldn't bother with it since they can be more productive overall on foot. Where having it part of the logistics truck, yes its slightly unrealistic but it gives the logistics role anouther task it can do to make players want to do it more.
Having the recovery vehicle being able to push or unflip vehicles is an idea, thou could be used by smaktards to the opposite affect.

Herbie must be a flipper, first time I've heard a 'crane' suggestion.
IMO truck works well (if used atall) we've all seen trucks with armour on Kashan, and there are nearly always trucks lieing around somewhere, plus it is very often vehicles are tracked/immobilized, if more repair stations are wanted than having them in more vehicles might be better?

Agree with Rhino. Dedicated recovery vehicles would mean a hell of a lot of work both for the DEVs, and players wanting to repair tanks in-game.

I think that all vehicles should have a towing function that you can unflip another vehicle with... but being that the engine will be as happy doing this as a cat in a bath tub its really never gonna happen

Never, EVER flipped a vehicle in PR. Seen people do it alot though - and I've rescued a couple of APCs by ramming them back on their tyres with mine.
So... PLEH. And a big PLEH.

Well what im saying is:
If you want repairs, you get a logi truck or 2 trans trucks or 2 helicopters, drop 2 crates near tank, build FOB, then build the repair station. Then you get 2 hits in one, people can spawn in, and people can repair their veichle.
I think that is better, than the tank team stealing the logi truck, and using it for repairs(Smacktards).
But instead, this would be smacktards helping the team by building a FOB.
Its better imo.

You don't want to drop a FOB anywhere on the map. Just because a vehicle was there, doesn't mean you want troops there. Another point, is that if your vehicle was damaged badly enough that you need immediate repairs (immobile/etc), do you really want to try building the FOB in the same area? Might as well pop some flares and turn on some annoying music to get your enemy closer.
In real life, the "recovery vehicle" is just that...recovery. Not REPAIR, but RECOVERY. Chances are if your ride is that messed up, it's going back to motor pool for a while. Rarely does the recovery vehicle just come fix the vehicle and leave. But in real life, we have more vehicles operating, blah blah. Basically, as everyone should know by now, PR has to modify some things due to game limits. So in order to represent the multiple vehicles, PR allows "insta-repair" of damaged stuff. The oxy-acetylene torch setup used as the object model for the mobile repair unit is also easy to identify.
I'm getting tired early tonight, so I'll just finish with saying that the current method works fine for now in my opinion.

well if you have to repair a tank, you dont just show up with a truck, there has to be some sort of setup of equiptment, and setting up tents, getting wrenches etc.
So, i mean. Now is kinda simple, this would make it more realistic imo, as in terms of what happends in real life, when a tank gets damaged, you have a recovery veichle, maybe some on position repairs, they bring in supplies for that, people organize it etc etc.

if we could do it well with the BF2 engine we would have it so you had to toe the tank back to main or w/e like in r/l. The problem is, we can't.
What we have instead is the repair crate, which repairs the damaged tracks very slowly and doesn't repair to 100% full hp, you really need to return to main after your tracks are fixed in order to get full hp etc again. You are pretty suicidal if you go back into the fight after only repairing from a repair crate from having your tracks damaged.
EDIT: the first part of this video shows off quite well the basics of a recovery.

I feel like ninja and rhino have covered it all. Building a repair depot in the middle of nowhere is totally unrealistic, definitely shouldn't be added.
