Thanks to Himalde for posting this link in the RT Shoutbox. This on youtube and it is on the PC it is the C4 engine. It looks very good from the video!


I personally love how the character is meshing well with the steel gate and those swinging metal pieces. He also can appear to do a forward roll which would imply that leaning might also be possible?
Please don't turn this into another engine suggestion thread as I will become a very angry panda!

Concerning the physics this demo uses Physx but we are considering to port it to Havok.

Yes currently the PC demo is working with Keyboard, XBOX 360 controller and Wiimote.

Im pretty sure things like leaning are possible. Its a complete engine, there are probably only a few limitations.
I only hope the PR2s will do a better job on the explosions and blood effects
Apart from that its one of the best looking demonstrations of the C4 engine ive seen, now they just have to make the best game ever.

I just don't like the character movements (the enemy) that much, but I'm pretty sure it will be better over time

I think that it would be perfect for PR2.

Had to read into the comments, this is on the PC.

I hope we will be able to use that cool telekinesis powers in PR2.

I would believe the limitations all comes down to how much time it will take for a coder to code how they want it to behave.

Moving on the ground is well and good but the ability to fly a plane, then snipe, the drive a boat and then door gun for a blackhawk is what makes PR, PR for me.

the problem i have with the engine is.... there arnt any good demos really.. all i've seen is a bunch of really small rooms with people who run around like it's Counter strike with fancier, but quite dull shaders that are black and white to actually give any clarity.

=/ I just want a very nice looking PR2 "beta" (like maybe a small .5x.5km area of trees) with really nice looking textures and without the overuse of shiny shaders.

o.o i know that'll take a while, but that's what i need to be impressed. xD

=) Cause my current issue is that all the demos don't have that certain... well.. fluidness to them. I don't see headbob. I don't see weapons really moving. I see a bunch of stiff animations and a very shiny gun shooting at really reflective surfaces. o.O Nothing really... REAL looking.

._. maybe could someone at least do a cool rendering of a forest with some scripted explosions? XD My real worry is that tree's will look dull or shiny, or too shadowed. (meaning that they tried too hard to create detail, and in the end they created dullness instead of detail)

^_^ THEREs the analogy i was looking for. Everything in the C4 engine looks like clay. ^_^ Hopefully you can make it NOT look like clay. XD

i'm pretty sure you just decribed why it looks in this way, if same people were working on cryengine they wouldn't get the same result as in your "dream picture"
engine gives you possibilities- you use them
even if you compare pr to original bf you'll notice how far they are, and this is same engine

The bf3 engine will tie you down so you can't make any money from modding it, and you'll still be running into things being "hardcoded" because you don't have access to the engine's source code or any documentation. Bf2's modding support isn't exactly extensive, and the engine has numerous limitations, so what makes you think it'll be any better. Bf3's engine will have fancier graphics, and will waste network bandwidth on destructible environments.

The c4 engine's graphics (after all it's always the graphics people focus on) isn't as bad as people make out and supports a lot of newer graphical techniques. People think it's bad because there haven't been any good graphical demonstrations. If anyone is interested there are some nice examples of what it's capable of in the c4 engine.

Equally, the engine offers a shader editor which can create custom shaders - and since all mainstream games primarily use shaders to create their effects I can't actually see where any argument that it is a bad engine comes from. You get good support, a powerful engine which can be easily extended, and you don't have to faf around building your own engine from the floor up, or hack your way around hardcodedness when modding.

The C4 engine theoretically will support unlimited terrain sizes.

there is nothing wrong with the topic, just what your saying is wrong. do a bit of research on the subject before making comments on it.

Our own engine = Unlimited possibilities because WE HAVE THE SOURCE CODE!!! Alot of ppl dont understand that. You can sit here all day talking about what the engine can and cannot do but in the end realize that we can change it as much as we want to make it do whatever we want and that is by far the #1 selling point. Get a clue ppl
