Ok so right now I'm running vista ultimate x64 and obviously I have an ungodly amount of problems with it as far as editor goes + 3ds exporting/dds ****.

I have a copy of my old windows XP x64 but was wondering if it has the same problems as vista x64 with the editor.

I know xp x64 use to have heaps of problems with compatibility with lots of programs.

I do not have a copy just regular XP and I'm not going to rip one off (though its tempting b/c of microsoft's piece of **** vista.

I do not have the money to get Windows 7, especially seeing as I've given over $1000 to microsoft since 2003 in operating systems, not to mention the sales I did when I built computers for people. Nor do I have the money to buy a XP regular key.

Editor problems
-the bug where stuff will not move in editor or update visually until you release it (tried every fix available and it doesn't work even the photoshop trick.
-I can't generate lightmaps in editor cause of errors and bugs gallore plus it will only run for a few minutes before shutting down.
-3ds Max 8 cannot use .dds images in it unless you get the service pack 2 installed. which won't install cause I also have 3ds max 10.

I know there is tricks and tips to getting stuff to work or somewhat work on vista but I'm tired of this, you can only tollerate having to "Fix" everything to get it to work on your 350 dollar operating system.

Bottom line is it worth installing XP x64

joeziah,

Although you have already resolved the issue I just wanted to let you know that xp64 works excellently, almost all vendors have compatible drivers and I have not run into any issues running any 32bit software in the three years I have had it.

I may see if I can find a second copy on Ebay, could you pm me the seller's name if you had good service and they are offering copies of xp64? I don't usually trust ebay for software.
