ok so i've got a head set, it works great everywhere else but for some reason in BF2/PR it sometimes goes bad and all my squad mates get is very VERY loud static. which on occasion results in me being booted from the squad pretty quickly.
after a while it works again, then after a while it stops working again. would this be a problem with my sound card/drivers? it is not the mic itself since both mics i have end up with the same result

As mike said, since its not your mic it might be either your card/driver or the BF2 VoIP settings

bump, the problem isnt with the microphone itself, and it probably isnt the sound card as it works fine for everything except voip, the same problem arises for all voip functions in any game where it works but after 5 minutes or so it becomes static, then 5 minutes later it gets back to normal etc etc.

OS? If it is windows 7 or Vista, right click on the speaker icon and click recording devices. Select your mic, click properties. Click on enhancements tab, and click "disable all sound effects".
I do audio recording on some computers using output from sound boards at live events, and sometimes things like DV Offset Cancellation, Noise Suppression, etc can cause some weird things.
If you're on XP, that *might* work - haven't used XP in years though so I'm not sure.
If there is no "enhancements" tab, then ignore this whole post, since that isn't your issue then.
