I want to get a new cpu. But i don't know what type i need. How to i tell. I have a gateway that was built in 2007. It says on the tower it has a amd 64 athlon x2.

Lets start from Square one. Are you looking for outright performance, or Economy, or somewhere inbetween? Now second of all, since your computer is factory, theres a few issues that may go along. One specifically may be that fact that your CPU could be soldered down. Which means it can't be taken out.

ok it is a gateway gt5637e. I opened it up and my dad and i both agreed that it doesn't look soddered. and i am looking for a pc that will run PR on high.

I have

geforce 9500 gt
4 gb ram
2.0 cpu
windows vista 32 bit.

I think the only thing slowing me down is my cpu.
people have said i should be able to run on high, but i cannot i need to run on a combination of low, med, n high
what do you think?

Your gpu is actually pretty weak, if it were me I would rather spend the money on a better card.

That should allow you to run bf2 on high and xfx is a good brand, they have a lifetime warranty.

I would reccomend an Amd Athlon x2 6000+.I ran PR at full spec with it, I also had an 8800GTS gddr5 graphics card. With 4 gb of ram u will be able to run at high spec

ok guys, thanks fof the information. BUT i did not ask for any opinions on cpu's and my graphic card is just fine to run pr on high. Now, back to my original ?'s. Will the 2 cpu's mentioned above work in my computer?

Both are the same Socket, so yeah, they'll indefinately work.

But make sure your PSU can run it first.

To be absolutely sure you would have to check what motherboard you have in your computer. You should be able to google that quite easily.
Then check if the CPU's u ve selected are compatable with the motherboard, you can search that once you know what motherboard you have.
If they are compatable, watch a couple of Youtube vids to see how you should replace a CPU so you don't go afterwards, "I shouldn't have done that".
Maybe a dry run with the CPU you have now before you put the new one in. It's pretty easy but it's better to be save than sorry.
