fan plugs not working

ok I built this computer a few months ago and I noticed that some of the 3-pin fan plugs dont work. at the time I decided that it wouldn't be a problem as I only had one fan that even needed to use one and the manual stated that it wasn't really necessary unless one was overclocking. More recently I've been thinking about doing some overclocking so I would like to get this fan working. I did some more testing of the plugs and Ive found that two don't work while another two do but they are unfortunately across the mobo and way out of the fan's cords reach. I've been thinking about just getting some spare wires together and just splicing some extra reach into the thing but I figured I might as well see if I might be able to somehow activate those plugs. This is my motherboard: nForce 780i Supreme probably a bad choice in hindsight but nothing I can do about it now. Any help or information at all would be greatly appreciated.

You could get a fan-controller for your fans, if you don't mind routing and carefully laying cables for them.

I'm guessing you have tried the same fan from a 3-pin you know works on one you think doesn't, rather than just trying the nearest fan?

Yeah I used the same fan. I think I'm just gonna splice the fans cable to make it longer and plug it into one of the other ports.
