They are not controlling the UAVs but they are able to intercept the live video feeds.

Wouldn't they just change the signals so they have to come up with a new way of intercepting?

The hacking was possible because some of the remotely flown planes have an unprotected communications link.
Really? Really?!
Sure they are fighting insurgents right now(not that it makes any difference, obviously), but what were they thinking? Any enemy with at least some technical knowledge would be able to tap into their intel. Geez..

So you're saying that real events is not realistic? Interesting.

The article says they've known about the vulnerability for 10 years and they just assumed our enemies would be unable to exploit it.....
Do you have to be a certified moron to work at the DoD?

1. it is realistic, it happened.
2. i doubt this is a suggestion, just needs a move.

I think hes saying that considering they didnt gain control over the UAV itself, that INS in game wont get UAV as the title seems to want to suggest.
That and Im sure the military will quickly take steps to encrypt the video and in some manner make the communication more secure, so I dont see it as a continuing problem.
Basically, I agree with him, not realistic for them to have UAV nor will this real life situation continue for long [at least, one would hope]
EDIT
just got to the end where they say:
Whitman said there were no plans to pull back on the military's use of technologies like drones, because they provide invaluable benefits to commanders.
so maybe INS in game intercepting video now and then is needed...
