Few reasons there mate, couple of us were looking at it recently and a few DEVs over the years too, Eggman iirc, its just buggy with dynamic lighting and a few other things.

As ive said, myself and a few others had been working on it, as we also thought it would be cool but you should take a look into it yourself and try and carry it on maybe?

Yeah, darker night slyle maps without NVG are possible, but lighting is weird afaik.

Welll Bi-ming Nigh = Fail... once that map came on evry one left servers ..... night maps can only work on Events .. like Night events if Ramiel was a night map with somalian forces i think it would be a Huge sucess

lol thats my opinion

Personally I think night maps would be a bit funner with less NVGs, but with more flares (from mortars, grenade launchers, and so forth), artillery flashes, fires, and all sorts of other lighting effects the Battlefield 2 engine sucks at.
Also it sucks when a server goes to a night map in the middle of the day and you can't seal off all of that sunlight.

This has been discussed to death but the problem whit nightmaps is that they intend to lag and that nvidia cards have some weird problems in them

I loved the concept but the implementation (obscured vision from the goggles/washed out terrain detail from the green screen) gave me a headache trying to figure out what was a hill/what was flat/eye strain.
I would love a map with both a day and night version, I could get used to the terrain so moving wasn't so funky (I was completely surprised by how much elevation Bi Ming really had). I would not want the restricted screen space as in game POV is restricted enough already. I think a moonlight/twilight map would be even more enjoyable to play than nightvision.

Whatabout muttrah night/dusk?
Or maybe even windy (to the point of a storm)? Us has docks as main because choppers arent safe there...

That would be awesome, especially if the street lights worked! You could use the NV in dark alleys and regular vision around the streetlights. I would prefer keeping the choppers as they would look sweet flying overhead with their blinking lights.
My only concern is whether vehicles can have working headlights (don't remember if trucks were on Bi Ming when it was night) and if they could be turned off for ambushes without requiring the driver to hop out. An infantry only layer would probably work best with docks taken by US to start with and the carrier still spawnable with choppers and boats.

Their have been many night versions of many maps, looking ok, some better than others. Just the problem is getting them to a standard that is acceptable by todays standards of PR mapping etc.

Main reason is because with newer nvidia gfx cards the back ground goes pitch black when ever a shot is fired when the NV is on or something.

You are correct
Matrox, Robbi, myself and a few others experimented with turning PR maps in to night maps a while ago.
Whenever a dynamic glow, that is mapper placed or from a muzzle flash or incendiary grenade touches a static, the result is black static. sometimes it is acceptable.
But when the entire dam on jabal is flashing black from people shooting near it...you can understand the problem.

dose this happen in BF2 SF and is it only in NVG mode or just even when not looking though the NVGs?

BF2 SF functions correctly, but thats because it uses a differnet .exe no? Edit, I just checked and its even more buggered!! I thought it was working....
it is withor whithout the NVGs turned on, because its a problem with the interaction of the night shaders and the bf2.exe I think
