Bury Mines

One small detail that has me somewhat confused is the way mines are placed.
I've never placed a real mine so I cannot assume but I would expect that they are placed either covered or buried.
As it stands right now they sit up and are very obvious to all.
I played for many years another BF2 mod and they coded it so that mines "sank" about 3/4 of their body size into the ground and were much harder to see.
That seemed a much more realistic feature.
I could understand if it was a TK issue but a nice feature in PR is that you can mark mines (something lacking in the other mod) and I would expect a time penalty to "dig" a mine in.
I searched the forums but did not find any reference to this so I apologize in advance if there is an obvious answer to this point but I am curious to the answer.

It would be cool to have, but still, they would become much more powerful. Also, What if you place the mine in the middle of the road? You won't be able to bury it unless you break the concrete..
I think it's fine the way it is. Just use mines as an Area Denial weapon.

Advanced search tutorial by picture, results are from the first page and the ones circled in red are about buried mines. Sorry for small picture size, I guess the upload process did something as they second and third should be much larger...

I don't see how a landmine could be activated by a vehicle rolling over it when it is underground. Maybe if the mine was remote detonated it would be more realistic.

When there's a couple of tons of metal sitting on top of it it's quite easy to detonate even underground...

Buried mines are normaly triggered by ground vibrations or a sensor that extends up from the mine the surface. You might want to do the slightest bit of googling before saying you don't understand how something might work

Tell me if i'm worng, but IRL mines are not found alone, but in MARKED mine FIELDS. As far as i know any mine must be marked, mines are not made to stop armies but to slow their advance, while being shot by enemies on the other side of the field.

Following up on Snooggums search I found an old 2007 post on the subject:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-pr ... mines.html
Seems like there was a lot of support but there was never any conclusion. Some interesting viewpoints.

Many countries simply abide by treaties that restrict mine usage but insurgents or governments that don't care still use them in unmarked ways. For PR that would mean that Insurgent and most likely Taliban forces would use unmarked mines and the majority of BluFor forces would use marked minefields instead.

Mines are mostly used by insurgents in game - they don't mark them, and set them individually because they don't have the time or money to make mien fields.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that mines are actually buried underground? Hence Minefield?

I'm not sure but I don't think the U.S. military in actuality really uses mines anymore. I know it's illegal for a soldier to use a tripwire for a claymore because then it legally is clasified as an unmarked mine.

The problem with that is that people with low or very low graphics settings don't see the rocks, it's happened to me before
