Changing the mode on Maps

Was just wondering how difficult is it to change a AAS mode map into a insurgency mode map.

I think Muttrah and Jabal would be sick in insurgency mode

Rhino stated before, that he does not want Muttrah as Insurgency map, as its a very wealthy city

Well, I think the mapper who made Fools Road did not want the Chechen faction used on that map, so it's not so much about what the the mapper wants as the community needs.

Maps should really be designed for a gamemode from the ground up, and then only tinkered with as little as possible for minute balance changes. Mucking about with the vehicle loadouts are part of the reason I loath qwai so much now. (Random AAS being the other large part)

Well first of all you cant change the map modes unless the author allows it. Second of all switching to INS is really hard. Requires you to hand place EVERY cache, Korengal for example has over 150 caches (that should be a medium amount) hand placed. Then testing over and over if the caches you placed dont crash the map or cause issues :-P

Thanks for the response.

I know creating new maps requires much time, from what I understand, can take months of development. How much time would be saved if prior maps could be changed to a different game mode, hence giving a old map a different feel in gameplay, compared to that map in its normal game mode?

Archer does have the village, castle, compounds and the other big hills where you can take some good camp

blow up a few buildings and make it a bit more war torn and make it a insurgency map. that would be pretty sweet.

that would be sweet to play it first as usmc vs mec, usmc pushes mec out and insurgence starts.

Depends really on how fast a mapper can place all the caches, have them bug free, and make sure it works. It takes time...and allot of testing. AAS gamemode are quite easy to do, really only requiring placing a few flags, spawn points, and assets. INS is a whole other ball game. Too many caches and it crashes, too many ladders with caches and it crashes, too little caches and its easy to find caches, caches not hidden propperly and it becomes a gameplay issue, ect.

If you think its something you would like to see hit up the mapper first because for all you know it might not work as well as you think. We have allot of talks about who, what, and why of a map.

You're not making any sense and you're contradicting yourself.

Not just because of that but mainly because it would be something very unlikely to ever happen in r/l.

Its almost like saying there will be an insurgency in Newcastle... Maybe a few years back it might have been a more likley occurrence to see a Insurgency in Oman but today Oman is a pretty damn stable country which has a lot of support from many western powers including the UK, we have even sold them many of our Challenger 2E tanks.

I know that most PR maps are based on recent or current events and others thru imagination, like British and American Forces battling the Chinese. So can't we have the imagination of insurgents in Oman and Western forces looking for caches on Muttrah. Honestly Rhino, you probably created the best map in the BF2 world to date and I think it would be a big hit in Insurgency mode.

Ok you can burn me for that but I really got bored of Muttrah. If I have to play it I play only heli in Muttrah.

Why not have Insurgency on Kashan? 8)

j/k, Muttrah City would be a terrible place to have Insurgency tbh, but that's just my opinion
