Green octagon, what is it?

This is actually something i've been wondering about since vBF2.
Just what exactly is that green octagon thing you see when you are a chopper pilot?
Don't know what i'm talking about? Here's a screen:
It's movement seem to be related with the movement of your chopper, but I've yet to discover the real use of it since it pop ups quite randomly.

It helps you to hover steady. When it's in the crosshair you're hovering perfectly still.

French helicopters rotors spin the other way.
Another interesting fact for you there.

It's supposed to show you how much and in which direction you have to adjust in order to hover, it's not really useful though

Hehe. When you're absolutely still, it'll be in the middle of the screen. Pretty useful imo, when you're hovering at an altitude where it's hard to judge where you are going using landmarks.

Knowing what its for, and the fact he was spinning out of control, I very much doubt it.

If you can get it to slide along the horizontal pitch indicator in a perfect line, your helicopter will spawn endless sniper kits equipped with dual Desert Eagles and a .50 cal rifle...

And HAT kits will be requested everywhere on the enemy team to shoot the hovering kithose!

It is part of a computer program that makes hovering more stabel IRL. The circle indicates that u have entered "hovering mode". Cant remember what that program was called i think it was something like "hop up".

Something on TG forums =>
clicky
----
Here's what happens. When you enter a hover the little thingie will pop up on your hud. The thingie tells you the spot where you originally entered the hover. It tells you how your drifting in relation to the original spot you hovered in. When you take off you start in a hover. Then as you move forward the octagon drifts down, Idicating that your moving forward from that spot.
Think of it like if you were seeing it from top down. When you start hovering thats where the spot shows up on the ground. when you start drifting that spot stays at the same place while you move of in some other direction. So if you start drifting straight forward, pull back a bit on the stick and drift back to that spot. It's basically to help you stay in one spot while your hovering.
So it indicates a location on the ground and helps you to stay on top of it. Might be useful when the OMGWTFASTR0PEZ are implanted

P.s You're crazy for taking a Screenie when you're at only Alt. 49
Or is it just me that it freezes the screen for a second?
