Optimal Mumble and VOIP useage.

I don't know if there are Mumble guidelines or not but I have rarely, if ever, seen it used properly. I think this is a good system to start with and something needs to be created universally so everyone is on the same page.

Using VOIP - For SL to communicate with COM and his SM. SM only use to confirm targets and information that may halt their progress if SL ask them to do something, for example I'm getting healed by the medic, etc.

Mumble - Global - So you can co-ordinate with other SM from other squads other than your own to make them aware of your movements and any enemy movements in the area. Also used by drivers, gunners and SL in vehicles.

Mumble - SL channel - For SL to talk to each other over distances and probably should have COM in this channel too.

Mumble is not TS and is a tool to improve gameplay, not for spamming to your mates what you did on the weekend.

RADIOMAN
I would like to hear your opinion on this, specially from guys playing on TG.

I had arguments with several veteran players on mumble usage.
In my opinion, there should be some rules about using SL radio channel, since some players are over-using it. A week ago, I was gunning for pr.snook in a T72 tank on Kashaan, and in few engagements we had vs enemy vehicles he couldn't hear me spotting tanks.
Once, after I fired 2 rounds at an enemy tank, and received 2 (we got blown up), some 5 seconds into a DEAD screen he asked me: "Ok, hm... sorry about that, SL channel... we can talk now - so what happened? What killed us?"
That would be a normal question if I was silent about it, but I did inform the driver loud and clear about an enemy tank being spotted, repeated his position, informed on every shot I made and every shot he made.

If a tank driver can not communicate to his driver, imagine how difficult it must be for an infantry squad leader having 5 guys to talk to, in a combat vs enemy inf and vehicles, specially if english is not his native language. Last time I was in SL radio channel two squad leaders were talking all the time, and when I said: "Guys, can you maintain some degree of radio silence?" one of them replied: "This is the squad leaders channel, if you don't like it, you should leave it!"

... and so I did. I don't use SL channel any more. Now I go for a radioman solution. I pick one guy who can handle it to send and receive info via SL radio channel, so I can focus my attention to my squad, with important info being passed to me when I'm ready to receive it. I think it's an efficient solution to a very annoying problem.

PS. I forgot to mention I don't consider myself being a good SL - I take the lead of the squad only if the team is short on good SLs, and if there are dozen of new guys trying to find a squad to play in.

Very hard to find the right balance between annoying spam and important info.

I would love a direct SL to SL communication tool using perhaps a set up whisper group, so an inf SL could talk only to eg the CAS SL and not be spamming the other 6 SL's in the channel - might have to wait for PR ARMA for that though.

Would be good if you could talk to 1sl at time. Or only one person could talk at once.

Believe me or not but if it was me and my friends playing PR, that would be exactly what we would be talking about.
