Give Civilians Combat-Engineer Like Abilities

I could not find any suggestion prior to this about this.
Civilians should have a shovel and wrench and be able to construct hideouts just as a Cell Leader does.
Reasoning:
1- Insurgents don't have a class with a wrench, leaving them unable to repair vehicles or disarm their own mines.
2- Civilians would be more important if they were able to repair insurgent vehicles. I for one would love to set up a mechanic's garage..
3- This would make it where Ins/Taliban don't have to have a Vehicle-Repair Station like on Operation Archer (I know this is temporary but if civilians could repair it would not be necessary)

Pretty sure they got rid of the repair feature, I think the wrench is only useful for mine removal.

You can repair light vehicles like HMMWVs.

I'm not sure if that is really needed for ins. I think lack of field dressing is more vital.

I thought the whole point is that the insurgents don't really have the resources to repair vehicles as quickly as the BLUFOR forces. Insurgent vehicles are supposed to be fairly precious, adding a wrench would simply reverse the current order of things.

Give them a shovel, if there is room. It would be nice to be able to place a hideout and shovel it up, while the armed insurgents provided some security.

then they would get shot at more
collaborators where created because they look like civies the problem is there are no civilians. So if blufor see any one thats not on their team then it is automaticly an enemy
i think they shuold remove collaborator and have a medic

Wrenches can repair all insurgent vehicles because they're "light" vehicles.
And insurgent vehicles aren't precious, they're throwaways. You can drive them into the enemy going LALALALALALALALALA.
Still, I'd like to be able to repair that motorbike I beat up instead of waiting for a new one to spawn.

The civi needs to be more of a utility class, this is an excellent idea, and that mechanics workshop adds more depth to the game

PR can become an RPG
Imagine if civis could claim 'houses' and live in them and provide support if the insurgents come a knockin'...a man can dream.

Civie used to have a Wrench.
Why was it even taken off?
Edit. Or did their wrench not work? I can just remember being elated whenever we found a Combat Engineer kit because we could repair the bridges that the British would kill every single round on Al Basrah.

IMO, 1 or 2 civi repairman pickup kits would be lovely. There are no that much useful work for the wrench why it should be spawnable item.

It would be cool if a class called repair man could be made as a requestable kit

Correct me if I'm wrong but the wrench is not capable of repairing any vehicles, is that right? Someone's mentioned they can repair light vehicles but I can't say I've ever known this, seen anyone do it, or read it in changelogs?

If you give civilians shovel you have to let them use as a weapon. because I think that is what they gonna do in real life if they came face to face with a coalition forces.

HMMWVs, clowncars, TOW Humvees, FAVs, Landrovers, civilian cars, technicals, BRDMs, Spandrels and any other 'light' vehicle that I may've missed, short of an APC, may be repaired with a wrench.
If running a TOW HMMWV/BRDM squad, my loadout always consists of at least 3 people: Myself, my gunner (usually a medic), and a combat engineer for emergency repairs.

You can't give a weapon in the BF2 engine both repair and attack abilities.
