PR2 technical question

I don't really know where this would belong to...
I would just like to know how PR2 is made. Do you guys have to build everything from scratch, or can you import stuff from original game and/or BF2? Is it going to behave differently right from the start, or will there be any familiarity in it?

: Sorry but i didn't find answer for this question anywhere.

I doubt most of the stuff made for PR would be worth importing, the c4 engine is a more powerful engine and can handle a lot more than the bf2 engine so old models would be rather obsolete. All of the bf2 stuff that does not belong to PR cannot be imported because it's covered by copyright.
With the c4 engine they have to build things from scratch. The Engine has some features like a map editor so in a very small ways it's similar to bf2 modding. The difference is rather than having the bf2 template to work from they have to build in all of the game mechanics themselves, along with all of the assets and the interface. Equally with the c4 engine they have the actual source code for the engine so they can add their own optimisations/changes/features to the engine.

I believe there is a PR2 FAQ somewhere around here.
IIRC the game is being made on the C4 engine, and I think everything has to be built from the ground up.

So you can basically expect that we'll get all the content we have now in PR2, 3 years AFTER Release.

Ughh screw that, I'd rather have the same content in the current PR, in PR2 on release, not having to wait around for all of it to come in slowly like the current incarnation.
Then even more factions and stuff can be chucked in progressively.

Most of the stuff from the more recent releases of PR could be ported straight over and will look much better as they were designed with newer engines in mind. Other stuff, for instance statics and trees, and very old models will have to be made from scratch, or at least redesigned to look good in C4. We cant use any of EAs bf2 models for obvious reasons.
Hope that answers your questions.

Some PR models and textures can probably be touched-up to C4 standards, even if they were visually obsolete they could be used as placeholders.
Personally I wouldn't mind some PR content being "ported" as it'd still look better with more advanced lighting.

But the FAQ does not provide an answer for his question.

If we have to spend say~ 4 years for a first release (free time) to bring you something remotely comparable (content wise) to what we have now, it would:
- Be a frick'ing miracle
- content quality would be poor (especially compared to what games is going to be released by then)
- Turn in to a Duke Nukem forever...

This is exactly what I thought the amount of time its going to take to get anything close to the game at current is going to take years and my opinion is that if/when they do make and release it the game will be like pr is now good but outdated, this is not a critism on the devs they do a very good job and have lifes themselves work, kids and things like that so this is deffinetly not a critism on them but like posted above even the people who make the game have there boubts. So in my opinion expecting a new PR is like wishing to win the lottery might happen but unlikely.

Thanks for the answers. I thought so.
Kind of sad that we will have to wait so long for it. I won't probably have any time to play when it's really released =( Good things take their time ^^
