Hello everyone. I'm new at this forum and in the PC gaming community and I apologize if this is the wrong place to write this kind of stuff. By the way, I have read the manual guide before starting this thread. I have been looking at Project Reality for some time now and to put it simply this is the type of game I've been looking for for a long time. I own a PS3 and previously a PS2. I'm tired of all these run an gun shooter games. The only games that I have enjoyed was BF2 for the PS2 and Bad Company for the PS3. I've also played Operation Flashpoint but the game was lacking. I'm looking for a realistic sim game with some teamwork and fun. And this game happens to look like a good one. So I have a list of questions that I hope you can answer so I can get started really quick. So please help and once again I'm new at the PC gaming so pardon my ignorance.

1. Do I have to buy Battlefield 2 for the PC in order to play the Project Reality?

2. Can I use a PC controller like the one that looks like a PS3 or PS2 control to play this game because I heard that a PS3 control can be used for PC games since it has a usb wire to connect to the PC?

3. What are the recommended system requirements to play Project Reality? Nothing fancy and not too cheap. Just enough to make my game run very smoothly.

4. What are the button configuration?

Well that's all. Please respond back asap. I really want to get started. Thank you.

1. Yes, look on ebay, you can often for about 20 dollars.

2. When you mean PC controller, do you mean a gamepad? I guess you could map the buttons to a gamepad, but you'd be missing lots of the buttons. Unless you are flying, you are going to be at a serious disadvantage in firefights since you just aren't going to be as quick or as accurate as with a mouse (IMHO).

3. Take the default requirements for BF2 and double em, that should work and not be too expensive.

4. Too many to tell you here...

You'd probably be a lot better off getting used to keyboard + mouse though.

yes, you do need a legit copy of Bf2, its an old game so its super cheap.

I've never tried using a gamepad with my PC before, but I don't see what would stop it working.

All you would have to do I guess is to in to the control options ingame and set all the controls to your various gamepad buttons, as most people would when setting up their joysticks.

for system requirements, I think a good place to start are the recommended requirements for BF2, as PR is a bit beefier and harder on your system than BF2.

however I'd say 2GB RAM+ is recommended for PR, more the better, and you certainly can't max out your settings with the above system.

New BF2 on amazon is very cheap:

You don't need the full edition with SF EF for PR.

playing PR with game pad?

Yeah, Its good for flying and driving, personaly, if I'm having a long PR session, its nice and relaxing put my feet up on my desk, recline my chair, grab a supply truck and drive around doing some logistics, using my PS3 pad. I bind my voip keys and map to the D-Pad, so I dont have to use the keyboard at all. Plus, the land vehicles do have analouge controls so you can get a much finer control on them using a game pad than you ever could with a keyboard.

Google "ps3sixaxis_en" thats the app I use (in conjuction with Joy2Key, to workaround issue with binds for vent/teamspeak). The only thing I could never figure out was a way to bind the right stick for looking around, a minor iritation when driving trucks, but if anyone knows a trick to do that I would be mighty greatful.

Buy the way, you might have heard about Booster Packs... If you want to play PR, only buy the normal BF2, no Special Forces and no Armored Fury or Euro Forces (the last two have been included on the latest patch, v1.5).

If you want to play vanilla (unmodded) battlefield 2, I still don't suggest buying the SF... it IS fun, but maybe not worth it... your choice!

Remember to update to v1.5 (Battlefield 2). When playing, join a squad, stick together, and go for some teamwork! Also, don't be afraid to mention you are new to the squad. You should actually do that. Most Squad Leaders and Members are eager to help.

I've had loads of new players in my squad, and while it takes some time to teach some things like the medic system (which is in fact pretty easy), you also will have fun and learn quickly!

Here is a guide I made. https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... guide.html It is pretty elementary (YOU CAN IGNORE THE FORMATIONS SINCE MOST PEOPLE DON'T USE IT). When you join a squad, make sure you ask things like:

-Know how the deviation works.
-Know how to drive. (Which is normally the same as other games - Press Shift in some vehicles for a boost)
-Know what is a grenade trap.
-Know what is a mine.
-Know that you can't drive over mines or walk over grenade traps.

Remember: PR players LOVE to help new guys (unless you are a smacktard, other words, doesn't follow orders and stuff like that). Just remember, follow your SLs orders and he will gladly help you out.

Go to Best Buy for your copy of BF2. It's only $9.99.

Get a microphone.

Cheap and good = Logitech, $20 - $40 should do.

Make sure your mic is at good volume and sound quality.... Nothing is more annoying than a younger sounding person not using push - to - talk and it sounds like static while they scream like fools.

Yeah, what country are you in? You can find BF2, without the expansion pack for $9.99 at Bestbuy. And as some have stated, the expansion packs are included in the 1.5 patch, so there's no reason to pay $29.99 for the Complete Collection.

As a lot of people said, play with a mouse and keyboard. If you're ultimate goal really is to get away from the arcade shooters, why would you continue to use a controller that is geared for those arcade shooters? I've played both and I understand why arcade shooters like MW2 and such are arcadey like that, because the controller is not very precise compared to a mouse.

Lastly, Boilerrat made a very good point, get a headset. Although you can play without one, you will get lost and left behind very quickly. Sometimes the action is so fast that there isn't time to read messages that are typed on the screen and other players will just forget about you, not because they mean to, but it's just hard to manage that and VOIP and play the game at the same time. You could spend $20 for a cheap one, but when the maps last 2 to 3 hours, I am glad that I have a nice padded one.

You won't be able to compete when it comes to aiming with a PC controller. BF2 is 8 dollars on amazon.

I plus this. Theres no comparison between the two. Keyboard/Mouse > Gamepad hands down.. better aim/accuracy... and you'll have more freedom of movement.

And boilerrat I'll message you sometime about purchasing the parts to run project reality smoothly. But I have a couple of things to tell you guys. I have an HP laptop. Its an HP pavilion dv6000 laptop. Now my question is do these hardware parts enough to run the game smoothly on this laptop that I have:

processor: AMD Turion 1.60 GHz

Memory(RAM): 1.00GB

System type: 32 bit operating system

video: nvidia GeForce Go 6150


By the way, I do have a logitech USB headset/A-0374A. Is this good to use in project reality?

IMO, that is a big Negative. BF2 was and is a resource hog. It chews up memory like nothing else. I run PR on the following system and I get BF2 Memory errors after two hours of play. I have looked at the technical stickies and they all recommend having more than 2GB of memory if you can afford it or your system is capable of it. On average, PR uses up approximately 1.8 GB of RAM whenever I play. There are some workarounds to this, but 1 GB probably won't cut it.

Absolutely! Never deploy without it! Your squadmates will definitely appreciate it. Make sure you complete the microphone setup wizard.

That laptops spec might have problems running BF2 'smoothly'. To be honest, I don't want to sound rude, but you need an upgrade, and fast!

How much money exactly do you have to to spend on the desktop? Me, and many other people on these forums would gladly help you build around a budget. You'll be suprised what you can build nowadays for small budgets.

My Bro's Win7 x64 system needed 4gb of RAM for smooth game play. The graphics stutter at 2gb. Also for a mouse I recommend that you get a quality, corded gaming mouse. Never use a cordless mouse for gaming.

That will struggle with vanilla BF2 tbh let alone Project Reality, you will need to upgrade. Search around for a decent deal, this is still a 4 year old game so its not going to need a monster PC but to get it running smoothly on decent graphics settings you will need something reasonable.

My personal recommendation for PR would be:

2GHz dual core processor
2GB ram
8800 series gfx card or higher

That'll get you running on medium settings, you really don't wanna be playing on low. As a comparison on my system shown below I can run all settings on high with 60+fps (frames per second) on all maps.

2.6GHz Quad Core Intel Processor
4GB ram
9800gtx 512mb

As for other hardware you should get a corded keyboard and mouse. These items are very important in pc gaming due to the reaction times and the fact that batteries have issues with running empty at exactly the wrong moment.
