How to confirm your PR v0.9 files are not corrupt

While waiting for Friday you should probably check that your downloaded files have not flipped a bit and is corrupted in any way.

I can't think of anything worse than getting the password on Friday then seeing a "corrupt file message" at install time.
It happened to me last release.

So here's a quick guide on how to test the files.

We are going to talk about MD5 checksums but this has NOTHING to do with punkbuster issues

DBzao has provided the 0.9 MD5 checksum hashes here:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f380-p ... ost1252542
[R-DEV]dbzao wrote:part 1
1,866,588,498 bytes

part 2
1,713,910,016 bytes
88b8fb0c60e5688f69ea5f5e4a56ab55
There are plenty of utils to calculate the checksums:

Microsoft provides a CLI util here:
Availability and description of the File Checksum Integrity Verifier utility

If you are OK with the command line then you probably don't need any further help.

For a GUI MD5 tool I'll walk through MD5Summer, a basic free util, there are others out there too:
About the MD5summer

Your PR downloads MUST be complete.
  1. Download the md5summer tool.
  2. Unzip and run (it doesn't run any installer)
  3. Select the root folder - where your PR files are located
  4. Checksum type: MD5
  5. Select "Create sums"
  6. On the left hand side select the PR file names
  7. Click Add
  8. Click OK
Checksums will now generate, it may take a minute and much longer if your PR files are on a different computer on your home network

When complete a "Save as" window will appear.
Name the file PR-Checksum
Save as Type *.txt"
You will see the checksums on the screen but it's easier to confirm them from the txt file just saved.
Open the PR-Checksum.txt
Copy and Paste the very long checksum string listed above underneath the (hopefully) matching one in the txt file and compare.

If they match up EXACTLY then you should be good for Friday.
If not then you could have a corrupt file OR your file has not completed downloading yet.

Guardian Bob.

If you used a torrent, you can be sure your download is 100% correct as it does these checks all the time while downloading.....?

Good to know torrents can't get corrupt...

Man when I was trying to install PR a while ago my computer went haywire ( Disk errors? It was 5 years old and poorly taken care of )

Nothing matched up got all sorts of errors

Thank you for an interesting post Bob. It's nice to see that an answer was quickly given.

It was also nice to see a post other than something like: "What color underwear will you wear for .9?"

what if the Torrent occasionally stops saying something couldn't be hand mapped (or something) but all you have to do is click start again and it's fine?

If you get a corruptet file you can also easly repair it with the torrent.

Just get the torrent link in µtorrent and stop the download.
Now you can replace the file in your torrent download folder with the corruptet file.
Right click on the torrent in µtorrent and choose "Force Re-Check".
Start the torrent again to repair the corruptet parts of the file.

Enough talk of our glorious torrents in all their glory, but this guide is for people who can't use torrents... like the students in our community and people with strict ISP rules who must use a mirror.

Good guide... I will use this for my next large mirror download... in-case I have to do it.

For Direct Links I would suggest the addon "Down-Them-All" for firefox. It is a download manager and accelerator and you can have it limit downloads to a certain number at once at multiple parts of each. It works really well when I have it only downloading a max of 3 files at once with each download divided into 8 parts. Plus you can leave a ton of links in there and It will DL them in order.

Quite true that AfterDune, if you have used the official link your torrent program will auto checksum so it should be fine.

This is for those that may not be able to use torrents and go to an unofficial source to try and get the files before Friday. I know last release there was an unofficial source that served up a corrupt file.

Or people like me who have the luck of the Titanic, something by coincidence messes up the file on the hard disk and want to be extra sure. Reminds me I should back that up to my other hard drive quick 8)

You have to make sure your firewall not blocking it. Most of the torrent programs these days have a check build in. It will tell you if you connection is good or being blocked by something. If it is blocked, most of the time you will either have to tell your firewall to allow the connection or do a port forward :) this site has most of the routers covered for port forwarding PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model hope this helps

Just use "Force Re-Check" on your torrent and your file should be fine. ;)
