PC to TV HDMI problems

At the moment I have my computer plugged into my tv (22 inch samsung lcd) with a normal connection as you would use from the computer to any computer monitor. I have my resoution set at 1360x768@60Hz.
Recently i bought a ps3 from a friend with a hdmi cable, and just now i realised i have a hdmi output in the back of my graphics card (GTX 275). I decided to try to see if i could attain 1920x1080@60Hz resolution settings as the ps3 uses on the tv.
I turned off my computer unplugged the normal output connection and plugged in the hdmi cable. When i started my computer it started normally coming to the desktop at my normal resolution settings of 1360x768@60Hz.
When i entered my Nvidia control panel and swapped the resolution to 1920x1080@60Hz the screen image went very blurry and stretched, as in i could not see the whole of the windows taskbar or the desktop icons.
For any help thanks in advance, i would really love to have my pc set at the same resolutions as my ps3.
