How are these UN guys going to be used ingame? In defense modes only? UN is not an attacking force, so wonder what ideas you guys have behind this idea.

Agreed. Those bright blue helmets won't stand out in the jungle at all :d uh: I think a UN type force could be quite cool if you give it the right map and gamemode..

They stand out because they're UN....... So that's fine.
Just curious to where it's going :) .

Ok, here is the deal.

Right before president Aristide resign there was a wave of violence and most part of the country was taken by rebels and guerrillas. After the resign of Aristide, UN created the peacekeeping mission. Having the biggest contingent between the 20 nations involved on the mission, Brasil was called in to lead it.

The mission has the following goals:

1. Stabilize the country.
2. Pacify and disarm rebels and guerrillas.
3. Promote free elections
4. Aid on institutional and economical growth of the country.

The rebels just didnt gave up their weapons. There were a series of confrontations, specially on the "slum" area of Haiti's capital, Port of Prince. Before the earthquake, the mission had achieved its goals on disarming rebel groups. The majority of it's leaders were arrested, but is seems some of them escaped during the tragedy.

I wouldn't call it a "subfaction", it's more like new maps on a different scenario. On Amazon, we are portraiting the Brazilian Army, on Haiti, it will be the Brazilian Marines.

The "Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais" or Brazilian Marines, uses mostly US weaponry, including M16A2, M203, M249, Acog Scopes, etc... So, we have most of this done on PR.

How we intend to bring this to the game:

It will be probably insurgency mode. The "BM" will have to search and destroy rebel weapon caches. It will most likely be an Urban map, similar to the conditions of Port au Prince slums.

The UN-Forces can also being used as an attacking unit.
But those kinds of movements are really seldom.

So let's just wait what they will handle out ;-)

A bit odd for an UN faction...I mean face it they are known for their utter failures (especially due to the fact that they aint allowed to engage anything and I mean it literally). Anyway IMO blue hats not only stand out but even look awkward...maybe ditching the hat in favor of helmets would be better (besides isnt that something that has been done in 0.9 for the PLA and GB)

Edit: Oh right thats an engineer...either way my opinion is that it should be ditched (unless it looks better ingame)

how about a defend game mode ?

the BM has to defend their base and the rebels are attacking to free their leaders

Like defending a prison? It could probably work out, but i think it would restric a lot the brazilian side movement on the map, dont you think?

I think these guys should use the new defence game mode (shown in the PR 0.9 map loading overlays), the last defence objective should be civilians at a hotel site or something.

Do the Brazilian Forces use this kind of camo in Haiti? I mean, most of them probably are in an urban environment, aren't they?
