If your muted:

Not able to use VoIP
Did you try pressing tab, right click to activate mouse and click manage, then mute and unmute yourself ingame?

That seems to work most of the time.

If that doesn't work try:
VOIP FIX

does the loop back test in the bf2 audio options work?
do you hear other ingame sounds?
are you maybe talking about mumble - or ingame voip?

make sure the volume slider for "output volume" is not all the way down

I have this issue as well but with an X-Fi XtremeMusic, usually 20-30 minutes into a round I lose VOIP, both Mumble and PR. I can still talk to people fine but I can't hear them. I think alt tabbing out near the start of a round makes it happen faster but I have found that I can alt-tab out when it happens and with enough fiddling with my audio settings I can regain comms. The fact that I was losing both Mumble and PR at the same time made me think that it is probably hardware related (and I have other known hardware issues) but the fact that someone else has had the same issue makes me wonder a bit.

try this:
go into the windows "playback device" (right click on speaker icon next to the clock)
make sure no other device has the status "default communication device" (or right click on "Speakers" and set them as "default communication device" and "default device")
