The Ropes: I need them shown to me

Wow: My first impression of this game was that. This game is great, but I have one problem.
I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to practice on some servers, but I'll get kicked because I'm not very good. And, I don't seem to be improving. People have suggested to play co-op, which I have, but the AI is bad (And I know you can't fix that) and it really doesn't compare. If I may use a nerdy analogy, its like how its hard to be a new Dungeon Master to DnD unless you've seen a pro do it before. My question is: Are there any servers where experienced players can help out noobs like me without fear of being kicked? Because I think that would help a lot.

Tell the SL that you are new when you join a squad and usually they will be a little more helpful. We try and help the new guys on T&T as long as you are willing to listen and learn. Having a mic helps a lot too so invest in one if you havent already.

texas teamplayers and Tactical Gamer would be a good starting point imo

my question: do you have a mic?

if not i'd seriously suggest getting one.

read up on things to get the basics, that way you can ask more advanced/ specific questions ingame.

nice to see a new player willing to learn rather then getting a sniper rifle, dieing, cursing and quitting

have fun :D

Here are the ropes:
Image

Sorry, the thread title, i just couldn't stop myself...

On a more helpful note, if you let people know you are new when you join a squad they're likely to be a lot more tolerant of any mistakes (i.e. they know its a genuine mistake and not someone messing around) and give a bit more guidance on tasks.

Also, with the mod being new there's going to be alot of new people about trying the mod out, so it may be difficult to find a squad leader who knows what he's doing to any degree. IMO it better to shop around until you get a half decent on as it makes the game infinitely better.

IAJTHOMAS: But we can't have those ropes, can we ;) .

I've read the manual. Also, whenever I try to join Tactical Gamer, it always says I was kicked for exessive teamkilling, even before it begins to load. Also, I'm pretty sure I've never been on that server before and I don't teamkill. Weird. If I was bannde, and I don't see a reason that I should be, wouldn't it say I was banned?
I have a mic, and I'm working on hooking it up. Thanks for the advice, guys.

Don't even bother.. I am beginning to see server admins just kicking people they have not seen in there server before.

I actually know what I am doing now (Co-Op) and have always done quite well. Cept for maybe the first time i played. Does not matter i've been banned from 1 of the 4 servers that I ping well on.

I always join a squad, I always follow the orders if I can. Never even touched a vehicle yet alone crashed one. Even got a few kills and points last time i played. But Nope Banned anyways.

This is a typical good game ruined by the community. Only trumped by L4D in terms of a-holes. Salute to the few nice people i played with. But I am done with the game. Going back to Armed Assault and Op flash.

TG has a 62 player limit, if there are 62 players you won't be able to join. It's not because you're actually banned, promise :)

Anyhow, let SLs know you're new and you shouldn't have much trouble.

regarding TG, the server is full at 62/64, that message is basically saying full, you are not banned

they run a script that kicks the longest playing non-paying player (for a paying member), it can be a ***** to get in sometimes but it's worth the wait imo as the gameplay is always high and there's often alot of experienced helpful players in.

i reckon once you get the mic sorted and start talking to people you'll find you get kicked less from squads etc

ninja'd :(

It would be a shame if you let one or two bad servers put you off the mod entirely. You're always going to have the odd rotten apples in any community and sometimes they get admin powers.

As I said before, the few days after release usually see the wider community in its worse light. Its one of the occassion where knowing a good server and getting on a with some people who you know also want to play the game sensibly is a real benefit.

sometimes the servers have spots reserved for supporting members so sometimes although it says 54/64 those last 10 spots might be saved and no one else can join. problem with that is though instead of saying server full sometimes you get a "kicked for -reason- for (0) minutes" message

@Snug: Yeah i agree with Thomas, the time just after a release brings out the worst in alot of the admins and veteran players. but dont let this turn you off PR, it'd be a bit dissapointing to lose a new player due to this. just keep jumping into servers and soon enough you'll have a round that gets you hooked into PR permanently.

if any of you newbies jump into a squad with me let me know and i'll gladly give you some tips and pointers when we're not being pounded by the enemy too heavily

Okay, I just played a game. It went well, I followed some of your tips. Well, except for an incident with a grappling hook. Sorry guys! :o ops:

1. Read the manual. Ace Combats you can just start up the box and play, a flight simulator you need to read the manual first.

It can be a toughie at first. Join a squad, let the squadleader know you are new and stick to rifleman. Be the last man in the group for a round or 3 and watch what everybody else is doing.

As for fighting tips. Find cover first then open fire. Movement resets your deviation so you want to avoid moving during combat.

@ Snug - Being banned for no reason is a pretty rare and isolated case, besides there's no shortage of servers to choose from especially if you live in North America.

Can you still charge up grappling hook throws in PR? 'Cause that would've saved me a lot of embarrassment.

EDIT: Set up my mic. Yay!

I prefer not to charge up grapple hooks. Every time I do, it usually falls up short. Full strength is what I do. That and right clicking.
