v0.9 CTD - solved

Hi,

After upgrading to 0.9 i had Crash to Desktop on every map change. No error message or anything like that, it disappeared and i was on the Windows XP desktop again.

Things that where wrong and i was able to fix:
  1. Since i know from experience that this is usually a memory problem i checked the page file size and my hard disk fragmentation and realized that there was not enough continues space are any page file any more. The installation if 0.9 over 0.8xx had totally fragmented the hard disk . i have to admit i did only have 30GB free of 160GB harddisk. So the solution was to defragment the harddisk to free up enough space for a page file.
  2. Shader creation. I noticed that the shader files where recreated. So there is a chance that something went wrong in the transition from 0.8xx to 0.9. So I just deleted the Battlefield2 folder in the My Documents folder. Beware, when you do that you will start with plain settings and you need to enter your account again and set all the settings that are different from the default. I was able to set the video settings to high again with a resolution of 1680x1050
Maybe this helps someone.

My configuration:
  • Windows XP professional 32bit SP3
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
  • 4GB DDR2 RAM
  • ATI 4770 515 MB RAM (Catalyst Version 10.1)

good advices indeed!

btw: looking at your specs:
you do know that since you are using a 32-bit windows your computer has only access to 2.25GB (value fixed by windows) ram and the rest is just plain not used, right? you should consider upgrading to a 64-bit version.

Well it is not 100% true that a 32 windows XP professional can only address 2.25 GB. Mine registers 3.43 GB Physical Memory. So basically 4Gb - 515MB of the GFX.

Also check out:

But since SP3 most of the tweakings and switches are not necessary any more on XP Professional.
