[0909] Suppression effect issue with nHancer enabled

Although I’m posting this in the “Bug” section, this might also fall under the “Suggestions” section as well.

Another mod that I play besides PR is Forgotten Hope 2. In FH2 there’s a similar “suppression” effect when you are wounded/bleeding which will make things blurry and you will not be able to sprint. To cure this you just have to apply a bandage (just like the Field Dressing in PR). The problem is that some video cards, including mine, will not reflect the blurriness effect of being wounded/bleeding due to some Nvidia cards disabling some shaders.

There has been a fix for this bug called NHANCER which will force some video settings in order to correct this bug. Again, the bug is not specifically tied to the mod, the root cause lies with some Nvidia video cards that do not react to the “Wounded Shader”. The problem seems to occur when AA is enabled.

Now, my issue with this is that when I get suppressed in PR my screen starts flickering out of control and it won’t stop unless I do Alt+Tab to windows and come back in. Most of the time it happens when an explosion occurs close by, either caused by a grenades, rockets, tank blast, etc.

I initially thought it was an issue stemming from my drivers since I noticed they were outdated. Drivers were updated but the bug remained. Had a rough idea of what might be causing it and discovered that once I uninstalled NHANCER the bug did not occur any longer.

It seems like PR doesn’t get along with nhancer very well. Would be nice if ya Devs could look into this and see if it could be addressed ;-)

If any one has experienced this issue that uses nhancer with FH2 and PR, all and any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

nHancer you say? How long has this been happening?

I updated my drivers maybe a week to a week an a half before .9 was released. I got shot at and my screen started to flicker to what at I have come call "Techno Bars". Its also happened a couple times when I go prone, but come to think of it I dont remember if its when being shot at. I notice when I zoom in they are gone (scoped). But when I unzoom they are back. Eventually they go away. However its two minutes or so that can hurt the squad. I didnt change my settings when this started to happen. I have an EVGA 9800 GT 512mb. I rolled back the driver but have yet to test to see if it had any effect.

I never heard of nHancer till now. Does it come with the new drivers? How do I disable it and if I do, is there any negative performance effects?

Oh and quick edit, I DO NOT have AA enabled.

Its old bug, happens to me when I use custom settings for PR from nvidia control panel. It does give very small advantage over other, hardly something to fuss over.

Hmm, odd. Well, nHancer for sure will not help it but you sure can try tho, the link will explain how to do it.

FH2 - Wounded Shader Bug Fix

What is your ingame resolution? I have it at 1920 x 1080. I have AA off and middium settings cuz of the low fps on Gaza and Beirut.

I really don't care bout it any more since it's stopped doing that flickering. All I can suggest for you is either to try nhancer or try deleting the content in the Cache folder...

C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Hope that helps.
