Server Management with PR

Hello, all -

I've recently purchased a gameserver from Alpha-Networks, but they offer very little in the way of instructions or support for the products they are offering. I understand that this is a hobbyist community and I'm sure that for many, BF2 server management is probably old hat, and therefore documentation is considered unnecessary ... sadly, I am a newb when it comes to managing an FPS gameserver, and I find myself at a loss on a couple of issues.

Specifically, I am wondering if there is a tool similar to Battlefield 2 Remote Server Manager which can help manage map lists for PR. My BF2 RSM app doesn't seem to load the map list, which I assume is because it was designed for BF2 Native, and not the PR mod. Can anyone shed any light on that?

My second question is regarding a locked gameserver. For example, TacticalGamer will often put their public servers up with a password lock for guild-specific events. I'd like to do this too, but I see no method for doing so via RCON. Any suggestions, tips?

Thanks so much in advance for any help. I did some searches for RCON and "Server Manager" but the results were not relevant to my issues.

I suggest getting a hold of [R-COM]Robbi he is the Tech team lead. He is also very familiar with Alpha Networks. He can help you figure things out, just depends if he is in a good mood or not.

If you've purchased a Project Reality Server directly from Alpha, as far as I'm aware you should get a server lisence automatically, which will give you direct access to the server admin forums once your forum account has been upgraded, you can find a lot of support their.
If you have bought a dedicated server, then you may need to apply separately for the license.
In terms of editing map lists, if you own the actual box the server is running on you'll most likely need to find the file maplist.con (This can be found in the Server Folder, Under Mods>>>Pr>>>Settings.) and you can then edit this as you please. If you have purchased just a Project Reality server, then you will probably have some sort of control panel which will give you access to the server and this may have some built in way for allowing you to edit the maps. I'm not to sure how Alpha do things when you don't have the actual box (FYI: My Clan owns a dedicated server from them) so your best bet is to contact them.
In terms of passwording the server this again depends on whether or not you own the box or the server i imagine.
Also in the settings folder is a file called Serversettings.con at the very top is a line called sv.password "", obviously to put a password on you'd just put the password within the "" and reboot the server.
If you don't own the actual box , again it may be different

Hope this helps a little,

Cheers,

Shavid.

Thanks guys -

As a caveat to other customers of Alpha Networks, make sure that your spam filters don't grab all their emails. Their domain/IP must have a low rating across Spam Assassin, because every one of their email accounts seems to be verbotten.

In one of the emails that you receive after you purchase is the information for their Game Control Panel. There, you can make whatever changes you need to make to your server set up. If you don't receive that email, be sure to, again, check your spam traps, and failing that, contact the A-N support team via their ticket system. They are quite responsive.

Thanks to everyone who replied, again. Hope this helps someone down the line ...

AFAIK ANs Emails are fine, its all dependent on email client used ;)

As for Support, you 'should' have access to the Server Admin Private forums, but as it is you don't, so you need to speak to one of the server admin team ([R-DEV]Bosco or [R-DEV]epoch) to sort your access out for that.

As for AN's support, I can't comment, although it depends what or how you've been asking?

If you have any more problems or questions mate give me a PM.

Good Luck.

Any chance there's a way to find the default maplist.con for 0909? I've edited mine, but failed to make a back up.

Short of that, is there some RCON command that will restore to default?

EDIT: I found the local copy in the install folder ... *foreheadslap*

Seriously Hannibal, you need to contact [R-DEV]epoch or [R-DEV]Bosco requesting access to the server admin forums, all the info you need is there.
