What happened to the UAV in .9? Used to be very useful

In .75 it was very easy to see where the UAV was on the map, by holding the Q key and pressing left mouse button.
But this was removed in .9 (I cant understand why) For me the UAV is now completly useless in almost all maps(especially in the big forest map Yamalla). Its a real shame because the UAV is such a great asset for teamwork, and an encouragement to choose the unpopular commander position.
At the same time the flying time has been increased. I'm confused.
No disrespect to the devs, I love the mod Im getting for free. If theres a new method to navigate please post it here.

I think you still can spot with it, but you need to open the map (Default: Caps Lock) and then right click at the place you seen the enemy at and spot it.

Just zoom your map.

It works but its still a pain in the *** as the map gets so small you need to search the area for a minute to be sure you know where you are.

For clarification, you're zooming the minimap that is present when flying the UAV. Default N when not looking at a full-screen map. (N, by default, zooms all maps; it's the minimap we're concerned with here, though.)
Now, in the center of the minimap is your position in the UAV. Try to simply read the minimap as best you can using landmarks and land formations, and you'll be able to figure out that the contact you called is about 100m west of the road at the intersection, etc etc.

The image that the UAV colects is not at the center of the minimap, actually on the UAV you can see what you dont get on the minimap when you are completely zoomed. I was commanding at Iron Ridge today and it was a real pain trying to figure where that FOB was between all those trees wich look exactly the same. :S

I think, you should be able to set "empty spot markers" from the uav view like sls back in 0.87 and you have to verify them on the capslock menu.
Plus one mini icon on the map (could also help the team like: Oh Commander, i see you got an uav in this area, could you please check these hills over there?).
And perhaps a uav recharge arbor in the commander menu, i dont wanna check my table clock everytime my uav expires.
Thanks and no flames please!

Yes we really need an icon for the UAV. Anything to mark it on the map...
It's almost impossible to find your way around yamilla. Every damn square inch looks the same from above...

there is - at least has been - a recharge bar in the right lower corner of the cmdr trailer, just close the cmd menu.

I find my biggest problem is going from the UAV back to the CO map and losing track of where the UAV is because I took too long to return to it.
Yamalia is a map that has few distinct reference points and I have lost the UAV there several times .

My very first time playing Yamalia I went commander and it wasn't impossible finding where the things I see are on the map were, I spotted 3 FB's and 2 inf squads and marked them down, with only one that might have been maked a more than keypad off

It's slightly more challenging now, but I agree with teek. It's not impossible, I've marked plenty of targets, even on maps like Iron Ridge, where finding them is next to impossible, and all the trees look the same.

So you are telling us, that the UAV is "working as intended"?

Thats what Im wondering about now, because all the modern UAVs i have found in google uses a GPS like system to navigate, like the ones by General Atomics:
General Atomics RQ/MQ-1 Predator
So I hope that a marker system is on its way back again, because I cant imagine how nerfing this down to make the operator have to guess where he is can give a better game balance.
