Arty IED weak explosion

Had a nice run on Fallujah the other night. Grabbed the arty IED kit and set the IED on one side of road and directly on other side of road a proximity mine. along comes an unknowing APC. I blew the IED perfectly mine blew too... APC just drove away smoking.... :cry:

Did the artillery IED lose alot of explosion power? Maybe you can blow the APC's from underneath?

Anyone else have any experience with the Arty IED's?

Its happened to me before 0.9 sometimes it wipes an apc out and other times he just drives right off, dont know what the difference is but once on basrah i blew the ied hit the apc into the water and he just drove out like a boat and rtb'd :(

i remember, i have blown up IED right under Striker in 0.87 (it wasnt moving)
and it was absolutely fine, even no smoke

no need to tell how pissed-off i was

the regular IED has lost power so maybe the Arty IED could of lost some to.

You must also remember that there are some factors in the game and IED to do severe damage to an APC needs to have a direct hit that means it must be detonated with a pressure plate (the apc will then be right over the blast) and the plate is activated or you press the button when the APC is right over, APC's are not hummers and should in my eyes need more then just a close hit to actually take down an APC.

I think it's some kind of bug/glitch to be honest. It's happened to me several times. Not too long ago (0.87) I crawled up to a Bradley on Fallujah and placed an IED right under its belly. Didn't even damage it. I've also noticed that sometimes bomb cars 'misfire' and don't do any damage. Frustrating as hell.

To be clear --- I am referring to the Artillery IED.
Not the regular kit IED

i can assure you that the arty IED is as powerful as ever. the other day on Fallujah i drove a Bradly around a bridge that was mined, we parked 250 meters away from it and a few minets later someone blew the Arty IED. it tracked my Bradly and a tank on the far side (also 250M away started smoking black and had the alarms going off, he managed to limp back to base before he tracked.

OK, may be a bug then. The APC couldn't have been more than 10 meters from the IED and the mine.

The Arty IED is still very powerful, one will kill any light vehicle HMMWV, Truck ect within 30m of the blast, while two placed together will take down any armour including MBT's even if they don't roll directly over it. And with the inclusion of the supply pick-up truck its now even easier to set up those multiple IED ambushes. Just a bit of patience and forethought and you reap the rewards...

And yeah the regular IED has been toned down a fair bit, I tested it on a local server and even 4 or 5 of them together wouldn't harm an APC, 2-3 together will take down a light vehicle. The IED is still very versatile tho with the ability to stick to any surface its great for ambushing infantry rifleman AP style, and you still have a big ol' mine that will kill anything.

So no more running around as a sapper thinking your a spec ops guy play to their strengths and keep the arty IED guy alive and well supplied, its all change in .9 but what's that saying... Improvise, Adapt and Overcome :D

Psst! Man, are you talking about the Yeti? Bigfoot? UFOs? Because these are seen as often as I had seen an Arty IED ingame!
In 1 1/2 years of playing I never even had this kit in hands, not to talk about how often I witnessed it's usage, I can count these incidents on one hand! Iraqi Insurgents are hopeless underdogs in this version, I never saw them win in 0.9!

If you have never had the arty IED then you have never cared to look for it. It can be found in the insurgents main spawn with the other auto-spawning kits. It is one of the sniper kits. It is very fun to use. I always look out for it.

Yup you find the kit at the insurgent main, look for the bag that has an explosion on the side. So far I've only played on Al Basrah where there is one kit and Fallujah where there are two at the main, and it doesn't have the Enfield any more it now has that zippy little machine pistol, the Skorpion I think?

That is a real shame because it is a nice bit of kit, and yes I do agree with you I don't often see it being used, but I wonder if that is just a symptom of the individualist play that happens in Insurgent games.

For example: player spawns at main, sees shiny kit, player runs off by himself, shoots or blows something up, player dies...Rinse & Repeat.

But the times I have seen these limited kits used in organised squads it really is a joy, I have to say more so now for .9 Insurgents to have success, team and squad work is key. I know easy to say, this version is only a week old and I hope in the next few weeks like W O P R from Wargames, players will learn and adapt :D
